TRNC flag

Postby bg_turk » Wed Nov 09, 2005 7:39 pm

I noticed the TRNC flag is not on the avatar list.

Some TCs who are pro-partition might want to use it. Could you please add it to the avatar list?

Thank you

This is a very bad request considering the reason given.
There is only one Cyprus, I hope the ADMIN does not pay heed.

A flag needs top be approved by the UN and accepted by its members as the representative illustration of a political-legal-geographical entity (nation state).

TRNC??? Is it, Taken for-Really-Not-Cyprus ??

The TRNC flag is

and it is the flag Turkish Cypriots identify with.
A flag does not have to be necessarily associated with a state, it may symbolize a people, like the flag of the kurds for instance.
So this forum should provide TC with the opportunity to use as an avatar the flag with which they identify.

The purpose of this forum is to bring all people of Cyprus together irrespective of their color, religion, race and language. The Turkish Cypriots that support partition are free to express their opinion as long as they respect the rules. However their aim can not be supported by the administration since that would be against the purpose of our forum.

I do not ask the administration to support their aim, I simply ask the administration to enable people to choose as their avatar the flag with which they identify themselves. The administration should not support their aim, but it should not obsturct it either.

The purpose of this forum is to enable people to share their views with each other without any presumptions as to who is correct and to who is wrong, and by refusing to let those forum members who best identify themselves with the above displayed flag, it seems to me that the administration implies that it is wrong to identify with this flag.

In the interest of preserving the neutrality of the forum and freedom of speech I strongly urge the administration to add the above flag to the avatar list.

If the administration feels uncomfortable with adding a flag of a state, which is not recognized by the UN, I would invite it to add the kurdish and nagorno-karabgh flags as well for the sake of balance.

Thank you.

Bg_turk,

I do not ask the administration to support their aim, I simply ask the administration to enable people to choose as their avatar the flag with which they identify themselves. The administration should not support their aim, but it should not obstruct it either.

This depends from which point of view you are looking at this matter. As you noticed I didn't erase the flag when you posted it by linking to it from another website. However adding this flag to the Cyprus-Forum server could possibly be seen as a support to such an aim.

I must admit that you have a point here. However using the same argument shouldn't I also add the nazi swastika and the enosis flag? These are flags that some people identify with as well. Would such move promote the aim of this forum as described in my previews post?

Thanks

If the forum server is based in the Republic of Cyprus and the administration is obliged by law not to facilitate the promotion of the flag, preventing the flag as an avatar could be acceptable but at a very serious risk of eroding the neutrality and impartiality of the forum since the authorities in the Republic of Cyprus are one of the protagonists in the dispute.
Besides am I correct to infer that since the Annan Plan flag has been added, the administration supports what the flag stands for? I suppose the answer will be no, hence I believe it is safe to say that the addition of the TRNC flag cannot be interpreted as a support for what that flags stands for either.

The Nazi Swastika promotes the most extreme form of racism expressed in terms of the desire to destroy and annihilate an entire race and as such it should not be included.
Concerning the Enosis flag I believe it would be appropriate to add it.
Contributors to this forum can be divided into several main categories: annanists, unionists, partitionists, and enosisists. Since the Annan flag and the Republic of Cyprus flag are already present to the satisfaction of the former two groups, by adding the Enosis and the TRNC flags the administration will also enable the latter two groups to choose as their avatar the flag with which they identify best.

Bullshit.

Those categories are entirely subjective, when the UN and the EU recognize the pseudostate then we will add it.
