You need to have a thick skin to successfully participate on debating forums so keep that in mind.

Oh please stop molly coddling this '100% Cypriot'. GC or TC I wonder????

I suppose she fits into to category of arrogant, uneducated villagers as well since that's how she describes Cypriots.

I wonder what here connection is to the Lebanese so that she so vehemently defends??

I only commented on your English as an example of making harsh judgements, as you did on Cypriot villagers.

Iliaktida, those villagers you disrespect were mostly kept ignorant and poorly educated under British colonial rule. Why shouldn't they now be proud too - even if they are uneducated ? Why not allow them a little 'arrogance'? They could have had so much more if the British did not enslave them. As soon as colonialism was (semi)lifted, Cypriots flourished. But the older generation still deserve our respect, as compatriots who were kept down. After all, they are the 'roots' you say you are proud of.

[Actually, somebody please explain to me how some people can say they love Cyprus, can say they love their roots, but then say they dislike their compatriots? ... They say they dislike their compatriots because they are rude and arrogant.]

Those peasants could also have ended with so much less as well Oracle if the British were not in Cyprus!

For one, Cyprus would still be a Turkish possession.

Secondly, the British had left behind a lot of infrastructure. The peasants did not educate themselves because they were poor and could not afford to leave their fields to attend school.

The same thing occurred in Greece during the same period. I believe poverty was even worse in Greece at the time. It had nothing to do with Britain.

But sure, I am willing to allow them their 'arrogance' as you put it. They were pretty damn tough, honest, harmless, stoic, proud, and had sound morals and values.

The British are not the evil colonialists you like to portray. Sure they did evil deeds in the 50s. From our perspective, we could have been more patient as well as it came down to timing at the end of the day.

You can't turn back the clock...

What you seem to overlook is that Greece did some evil things in Cyprus on 15 Jul 74 to 20 Jul 74. How many Cypriots did they kill Oracle? My Uncle was to be executed. All the boys caught at the Coral Bay Radio Station were going to be shot Oracle!

As to my defend to Lebanon, I had the opportunity to visit this country many many times, in its good days and in its bad days as a volunteer in 2006 war, and I saw what you never wish you to see at that bad days, and what you never dream to see in the good days. For me this nation is very respectful and lovely. A kai na min ksexasw, they respect the foreign too much!!

iliaktida i totally agree with you.i love lebanon and i love the people,i cant say the same for the arrogant cypriots who think that they r the only good peoples.
ive been to lebanon also.it is one of the most beautiful countries i have visited and compared to cyprus...u cannot compare at all,try visiting outside of beirut.its full of beauty and the people...well u have to go there to believe.cyprus is lucky because it has wonderful neighbours like lebanon and turkey and yet ignores this and sticks with that other neaighbour...greece.
before u cypriots and narrow minded nothings say anything against lebanon or the arabs or turkish,i suggest you go and visit that country ,meet with the peoples and come back and then nag nag..because thats all you lot do..nag nag nag.i will not allow anyone to speak such evil against a beautiful country and beautiful people of lebanon.they r true strong believers of faith which i cant say much about cypiots.
spare me the arguments..i can feel that im gonna get some bad comments but this is to be expected from dirt

Lovely post. :) But we need to love our own people first before we can sincerely love others. I think you agree. Let's stop giving Cypriots such a hard time, hey.

Paphitis - please save your breath and stop giving me your lectures. I am not interested in your ever-changing extreme views. One minute you're calling Queen Elizabeth II a hag that's wanted for murder, and next minute you're blaming others for distancing Brits. Just do your posts, if you must, but leave me out of your loop.
