They are used for Safety and Security...... Very Nice!

they are actually corvettes which are a bit more than a Patrol Boat!

they can carry a Helicopter and carry Surface to Surface Missiles and Surface to Air Missiles.

Perfect for the Exocets and that is some serious capability right there! :D

Ok sounds like you think I'm belittling the R.O.C I'm Not....
This is DCNS (they build em) description of the Vessel in the picture I posted

A new type of offshore patrol vessels

Specially designed for maritime protection and security missions, the GOWIND® OPVs from DCNS can carry all the prevention and action assets necessary for surveillance and policing tasks at sea, including fast commando boats, assault or transport helicopter, unmanned surveillance vehicles, electronic warfare interceptors, shell plating doors, secure high bitrate communication facilities and command aids. Thanks to exceptional endurance and manned by crews as small as thirty persons, the GOWIND OPVs provide an economical solution for ocean surveillance and security.

Unrivalled capabilities

At sea, the crew can easily and rapidly assess the situation from the panoramic bridge. It can count on the effectiveness and robustness of the easy-to-use POLARIS mission system, and on sensors grouped in the integrated mast to provide high-quality information, alerts and decision aids at any time.

Right Little Monsters these guys are, The use the latest version of the Exorcet, ask the Brit Navy what they could do back in 82.

No mate, I do not think you are belittling the RoC at all!

Just have a read of this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gowind-class_corvette

It seems there are a few versions of this class of vessel. The biggest being 2500 tons. They range from 90m to 105m.

And it is classed as follows:

Gowind is a family of steel monohull corvettes and offshore patrol vessels developed since 2006 by DCNS to conduct missions in littoral zone such as anti-submarine warfare (ASW). The Gowind family includes four corvettes with lengths from 85m to 105m and displacement from 1,000t to 2,500t.[1]

A 2500 ton vessel is certainly Corvette size.

With respect Max, I think they would like Cyprus to be better able to protect its own reserves not fight World War 3.

It is better for Cyprus to be able to secure its own EEZ anyway. I wouldn't have it any other way! Would you?

If other third countries wish to aid the RoC then that is fine! We are likely to get some assistance from Israel from all accounts.

But ultimately, the RoC EEZ is our responsibility, not Israel's!

I agree, completely

I cant see the picture you posted I posted a pic and asked if it was the same. You said yes. That is an OVP the "FNS l'Adroit" the corvettes have a different configuration.

Yes but from the picture, I can't tell which version it is. It could be the smaller or larger version and the RoC has not revealed whether they will purchase the OPV or Corvette.

I am hoping it is the more heavily armed Corvette!

From a little research to confirm a memory, the French corvette L'Adroite ... first in class, did visit Limassol earlier in the year.

May be an indication of which version CY is getting, if it was a demonstration visit.

Link confirms, the OPV FNS L'Adroit. Not the 'Corvette' "Combat" variant. Again whatever the R.O.C gets is a "Little Monster' And would be a game changer....
