How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Grivas Betrayed

Postby repulsewarrior » Sun Jan 12, 2014 12:22 am

...oh the strange and the internet, i was looking for news on the Karpas Road, and i found this one:

http://www.kyprisnews.com/2013/04/23/ge ... terrorist/

...all i can say, i am glad there are Greeks in Cyprus, and this author must have courage to say these words so frankly, about "Greeks".

your thoughts...

I think he would rather have less freedoms for Cypriots, political equality for the "Turks" (if not colonial rule), a 30% share for them too and play with the idea of banning video sharing sites.

Charalambos, stirs the pot...

...cyprus6593.html, a blast from he past.

...it is up to Mr. Anastasiades to decide, is Cyprus a Greek state, or a Cypriot State, does the Cypriot Flag fly higher in Cyprus?

for Truth, for reconcilliation, "Greekness" and "Turkishness" need a place, but Cyprus, and the notion of 'Cypriotness' must include the courage to set aside old dogmas to move forward, no matter how painful, an end to the appeasement that is so rampant in making allowances for the wrongs committed in the past.

For once I can understand your posts and entirely agree.

Grivas was a murdering c..t who did Cyprus no favours. Cyprus would have gained its freedom without bloodshed and on much better terms under the de-colonisation law/rules of the UN

He was my grandmother's first cousin, my father met him a couple of times after independence. Had my dad met him in Cyprus before 1960 the bastard would have probably had him shot because of his left wing sympathies.

...indeed, i had the pleasure of sharing Easter with his brother; he, in the end withdrew from even having contact with him because what should have ended (EOKA) with the independence of Cyprus, did not.

...i didn't know that in Greece, he became a willing accessory to the Nazi will, and that, i think, says a lot. it contrasts with the stories i've heard as fond memories.

The UK was not willing in giving Cyprus up, regardless of what the UN may have said. The UN also agreed to enosis.

I am interested to read any documentation you can point me towards about these de-colonisation laws.

After independence the Labour Government's defence Minister, Dennis Healey, wanted to give up the Sovereign bases to save cash. The Americans persuaded the UK to keep them.

thanks but

I am looking for something, pre-1960 from the UN (or the UK) that states that the British government planned to stop their colonial rule in Cyprus and give Cypriots true independence peacefully.

good point, i don't think they did.

...and regardless of motives, it seems it was Makarios alone who sought to keep the island whole, more importantly who gave Mankind an opportunity to end the subjugation of Cypriots, and to allow them the Freedom which is the Hallmark of the Modern Age.
