Postby whirlybird » Thu Nov 24, 2005 8:05 pm

Hello ,
Can anyone tell us (wife and I)what the healthcare arrangements are for any persons from the EU ( UK )retiring in Cyprus are, since Cyprus are now EU members. If any health crisis arise who do we contact, bearing in mind that we do not have private insurance. We both have past health problems which require yearly checkups and medication. :?:
Regards,

Whirlybird.

Hi Whirlybird

State Healthcare here has to be paid for - and you would find a hospital stay in a public hospital here, very different to the UK. It relies very much on family support.

However, if you or if your wife are in receipt of a UK State Old Age Pension, you will be entitled to free or subsidiesed State Healthcare.

Private heathcare is excellent here but medical insurance does not cover pre-conditions.

Just a thought; currently Immigartion are insisting that people moving here are required to have private healthcare unless they are covered for free healthcare.

Hi SK

The E111 covers holiday trips only, within the EU, not moving to another country.

BTW E111 disappear on 1 January, to be replaced by European Healthcare Insurance Certicates (EHIC).

Hi Svetlana,
Wife and I are not pensioners yet,( mid to late fifties) I have an illhealth retirement pension and one of the things that gets to me(and wife ) is the weather here and we also would like to get out of the rat race to relax and enjoy our time left on your great Island. Private healthcare costs are prohibitive to me in view of my past health.

Regards,
Whirlybird.

Hi Whirlybird

Your Pension may qualify you, but not your wife, for free State healthcare here; check with the Authorities.

Private healthcare will not be expensive, it just will not cover pre-conditions.
