Postby Sotos » Sun Nov 27, 2005 1:03 pm

1 policeman died and 27 people were injured (11 policemen), during the "battle" after the soccer game between APOEL and AEL in Limassol.

Congratulations to our Hooligans. Those people should be jailed!

Most of the people that go to these matches are drug users. This is the reason they cause so much trouble.

Just to clarify that the policeman died from heart attack not because he was hit.

NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) — A police officer died of a heart attack and 27 others were injured following violence after a soccer match between Cypriot clubs AEL Limassol and APOEL Nicosia, authorities said Sunday.

Marios Malekos, a 43-year-old policeman, apparently lost consciousness in the port city of Limassol late Saturday when hundreds of AEL supporters began throwing stones at riot units outside the Tsirio stadium, police said. He was rushed to a hospital where he died shortly afterward.

Sixteen officers were among those injured in the rioting and five men were arrested.

Fans said they were hit by stones and others suffered breathing problems caused by tear gas used by the 350-strong police force to disperse the crowd.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
