Will foreigners control Cyprus again?

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

I agree with Lana but on the other hand do not forget that populataion of Cyprus is very small. Imagine that let's say just couple of millions (which is less than half of 1% of 450 mil. total EU population) of people will move here from other EU countries. I think it might happen in a few decades.
As to the language... Few months ago my wife told me about something she witnessed in one of the department stores in Limassol: one old cypriot lady apparently after failing to communicate with several persons from staff was desperately shouting something like "does anybody in this shop speak greek?" (in greek of course).

Hi Hazza

It is not illegal discrimination because those not allowed to vote or stand for The House of Representatives are non-Cypriots, their residencey here is irellevant. For example, you would not expect a Brit to be able to vote in French Parliamentry elections unless he had taken French nationality.

Hi Piratis

While you are correct, in the letter of the law, I don't suppose a Turkish speaking, non-Greek speaking EU national would fare very well as Mayor or MEP here!

I wouldn't be surprised if the Ruskies had a pop. They seem to be pulling all kinds of others strings at the moment.

Mind you, if I made alot of money out of a post commuinist free for all and had more money than I knew what to do with, and didn't fancy the idea of sticking around a freezing cold shit hole with its leader baying for your blood...I'd be expressing power interests in a nice little hot country down the lines of latitude.

'specially seeing there are brotherly ties and all that....ahem. yeah RIGHT!

i wouldnt be shocked in the least if i woke up one day, and read in the Cyprus Weekly that three Russian Oligarchs had bought all 278,456 remaining homes and flats in Cyprus, and were in the process of turning them all into Cabarets.
