Its mothers day today in Belarus, quite an occasion since the Belarus people are very family orientated. Mothers receive gifts rather than flowers.
I decided to buy my other third a little gift so off I went to the Pazaraki, yes they call it this, a very lurch shopping area where you will find everything from vegetables, fruit meat and a variety of housewares as well as an abundance of clothing, bags etc.
My other third, who is a mother, has a young sister who works in one of the many shops in the Pazaraki, selling all sorts of luggage, handbags , purses and such similar goods.
Dobra utra I said, kak delag ( Good morning, how are you ) my Russian is limited to a few words and boy do I use them !!
What would you sister like, I asked, Oh she said she loves handbags.
I know that when you buy a Russian a handbag or a purse you are supposed to stuff it with notes !!!!
She chose a bag for her and off I went to the bank clutching the handbag that she had put in a large carrier, the handbag cost a bloody fortune, 300,000 that's just under £18.00 !!!
Handed the cashier a 5000 note and asked, or rather handed her a note asking for 100 x 50 notes, about 30 pence !!!
Stuffed the 100 notes in the handbag and on my return home I wished her a happy mothers day and handed her the handbag, very excited she was and thanked me with a ....kiss
She hasn't yet spoken to me and that's 2 hours ago!!! Must have found the notes and she is absolutely gobsmacked
So this why Im back on the forum, my ...generosity beyond compare
