I agree but the point of the thread was more with regards to Kasoulides declaration than the adherence itself to Schengen. IMO though, Cyprus has little to lose by joining Schengen, it's other countries who have suffered a lot, in terms of swarm of illegal immigrants making their way thru Eastern/Southern Europe and heading straight for the "cherry tree" of W. Europe
Cyprus being an island quite isolated the chances are it wouldn't be used as much as a access "ramp" as are the Italian islands, also Malta, Southern France&Spain etc. But who knows, if CY would be in Schengen, it's quite possible we would have a whole different perspective pertaining illegal immigrants (as in much worse
