Italian FM reportedly refers to 'little Cyprus'

this would appear to be an 'updating' web page so the relevant section may disappear before to long. Anyway here is what is there currently.

1:00 p.m.

Italy's finance minister says that only Italy, France and Cyprus supported a compromise deal with Greece, while the rest of the eurozone nations fell in behind Germany's hard-line position.

Pier Carlo Padoan says in an interview published Tuesday in daily Il Sole 24 Ore that he was surprised by how many countries fell in behind Germany, and that "in the end, only we, the French and little Cyprus were for a compromise."

Greece on Monday agreed on a preliminary rescue deal with its fellow eurozone partners. Before it can get loans, it has to implement a string of tough economic measures.

Padoan says, "we avoided the worst. But from today a very complex path, whose outcome can't be taken for granted."

So what do 'we' recon to the 'little Cyprus' bit. Patronising ? Racist even maybe ? Or simply an accurate and warranted descriptive modifier ?

Dear Mr Padoan.
"Little" and honest is far better than arrogant, corrupt and mafioso.

In Greek, as in French, and probably Italian, the diminutive can be a sign of affection. Since Cyprus is small (practical logic) and all three countries bravely stood together against the might of our superior Übermenschlanders, I read it as affectionate (of course, with your diversionary tactics, you see racism everywhere except where it exists - in the Turkish occupation and apartheid division of Cyprus keeping Greeks from their homes.)

Cyprus is little with no much power at that level ... so i'd say is good that he mentioned us. He could have left Cyprus out as irrelevant and nobody would have complained. Many even leave Italy out, giving credit only to France for the support of Greece.
