You live and learn.

As from now I will be very careful when calling any number. Scams seem to be on the increase here in the UK.

This morning I received a letter by post, apparently from some non existing solicitors firm, offering me a 50% discount if I settled a bill from a ...bank!!! Never heard of the bank either.

That doesn't sound right.

You should be getting a full refund.

You were scammed and the fees were not properly disclosed. Maybe you should write to the Telecommunications Ombudsman.

I started using a mobile phone way back in the late 80s when the phones were massively big and rather heavy and as much as I resent being conned I should have known that the 070 as well as the 076 numbers are personal numbers and do not form part of a package deal with the provider. Had I bothered to have done a search on google I would have known and would have avoided making calls. I honestly did not know, now I DO and hopefully so does everyone on this forum, that is why members should bring forth any scams they may encounter warning others. I have requested my mobile phone provider with whom I have 4 contracts to block outgoing calls if possible to these numbers, also my fixed line provider. I already have a block on my fixed lines on numbers beginning with 09.

A lesson learned is a lesson earned !!!

I have that too and unfortunately couldn't vote for Cyprus or Greece in the Eurovision song contest last time!

I use 1899.com for all my calls. After you dial the number you are told the cost per minute, 070 are shown on the website as 15p per minute.

Calls from UK to Cyprus are 4p and 15p for mobiles, no doubt there are cheaper options but the lines are usually good. BT now charge 10p per minute for UK landline calls so one hour would cost you £6. 1899 simply charge a 5p connection charge for all UK landline calls regardless of how long they take.

My business lines have been with the same provider, NOT BT, for many years now. I pay a fixed sum per month and all my calls to mainland UK as well as the EU, Cyprus included are free. UK mobiles are also free but not EU.

It works well for me as I call Cyprus a few times a day.

10p per minute? I wonder why it is so much cheaper in the other direction, then. From my most recent Cyta itemised bill, I see I made a call from Cyprus to the UK, landline to landline, lasting 26 minutes 30 seconds, and it cost €1.4151.

Because BT is a rip-off, Tim. Packages can be a good idea for heavy users but to get value from BT's anytime package at £7.50 per month you would need to make more than 150 calls per month compared to 1899.

If anyone in UK is interested there's loads of info here about cutting the cost of your calls. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones ... to-mobiles
