It doesn't overstate the case to say that James O'Brien has made Jewish people feel even more unsafe in this country. The LBC presenter's woeful decision to read out - in full - a message from a listener claiming that "Jews are taught that Arabs are cockroaches to be crushed" was not only manifestly untrue but reckless, dangerous and irresponsible. At a time of spiraling antisemitism, O'Brien was a proxy for Jew hatred, his reading of the message no doubt taken as tacit endorsement for rank anti-Semitism. Not least because that message was amplified by the credibility of a respected radio station and star presenter.
It was in fact from somebody who was the husband of the person who said it. It is as if nobody ever said anything like this before.
