EU Turkey summit

Postby cypriotnado » Sun Nov 29, 2015 5:30 pm

Despite all the fantasy stuff with Russia and the world the EU Turkey leaders summit has started. Pres Nic is in attendance.

I have a feeling this may be good for Cyprus as it might motivate Turkey to do a deal.

I agree Mouseman Davutoglug sounds desperate to join this club. :P

But don't forget all 28 states met yesterday - without Turkey - to decide how little they can offer Turkey for stemming its blackmail of letting loose millions of refugees.

Donald Tusk said earlier the main goal of the EU-Turkey summit was to stem the flow of migrants to Europe.

The EU also wants Turkish authorities to make that journey more difficult and to keep out more of the Afghans and other Asians who cross Turkey on their way to Europe. It also wants to hold Turkey to commitments to take back people who successfully reach Greece but then fail in their claims for political asylum.

And the reason Turkey will go away with much less than it begged for ....

A senior German official stressed on Friday, however, that Ankara also had much to gain from cooperation as it faces an angry Russia and hostility from Syria and Iran.

Dr Evil and mini me continue with their blackmailing to get in to Europe while sponsoring terrorism and provoking world wars in the middle east. Its not going to happen. The only fantasy here is Turkey's accession to the EU. Turkey is not popular in Europe at the moment. Most Europeans would probably choose Putin over Erdogan any day of the week. That says enough in and of itself.

What this summit was about was for Turkey to do its bit to stem the flow of migrants going through Turkey to Europe. Basically, Turkey has to implement and observe the readmission agreement that it has already ratified as part of its accession negotiations. This agreement stipulates that Turkey must take back all illegal immigrants that have crossed in to the EU from Turkey.

Personally, I think that Turkey is a lost cause and has proven to cost more than it is worth. This 3bn aid (bride) is more lost money.

Turkey is really not popular in Europe at the moment.

Europeans are equating Turkey with ISIS.

Erdogan is the biggest threat to Turkey, let's not forget that. And without a change, something like an epiphany, he will go too far. Turkey is not Erdogan. In any case, he does not represent Turkey, but a "Turkishness" which is defined by his ability to hold on to power. The "new Turkey" which he intends to make his crowning acheivement may be realised. But, from his demise, more likely.

I agree this if agreed it is a bribe but also a sign of The EUs total hypocrisy, dropped are any side issues like human rights or press freedom. Instead Turkey may see more chapters opened, visa removal for schengen and billions in funds. Germany also today offered Turkey and Jordan additional tornados jets in the fight in Syria.

Imagine if Turkey got into the EU or achived free movement theoretically overnight the settlers would be legal.

I don't hate Turkey but it's government which are 2 seperate units . The people of Turkey are lovely warm people hence why so many people go there for holidays . It's the erdogan dictatorship that is dragging the country into doomsday. Her army is the Second largest army in nato so in that sense she is influential but erdogan and that gvernment in power needs to go .

You and Dictator Erdogan can imagine all you like but whilst the EU has scheduled money for refugees, your daddy dictator is busy stashing it away in his own Swiss Bank account as he knows he has a long incarceration awaiting him ...
