No way dude.

population of Ethiopia around 95 million. Population of 'Surma' peoples (tribes of Suri, Mursi and Me'en) around 180,000. The 'lip spreading' is female only, so amount, assuming 100% of all female memebrs of 'tribes that make up the 'Surma' group engage in such practices around 90,000. So % of Ethiopian population with such around 0.01 %

% of people from western cultures with sporting extreme body art ? Could not implanting of silicon bags into women's breasts not be considered a similar form of 'body modification' for reasons of perceived beauty and aesthetics as inserting of clay disks into their lips ?

Just saying.

Now that I can agree with.
But it's not just 'body modification is it?

What else?
What else that has benefited humanity?

why isn't there a mass western migration movement to Africa?

Just in the interests of accuracy, the tribes that indulge in this kind of body modification - specifically the splitting of lips and inserting clay disk into them, are not 'Muslim' by religion. They follow a religion far older than either Christianity or Islam.

The whole discussion around which 'cultures' are 'better' than others is a long and complicated one. That western 'culture' is more effective and efficient in the mass production of material goods, is undoubtedly true in my view. Does that mean that people in the west are on average more 'happy' or even more healthy ? This I would suggest is a lot less evident. When judging how 'good' or 'bad' a culture is should things like 'damage done by that culture to the environment' or 'how quickly they use up resources that took millennia for the earth to store up' factor at all ? Has there actually been a mass migration of 'surma' tribes people to the 'west' ? (I am not saying there has not, just asking the question). Could the motivation for general migration to the west not be in part explained by people fleeing places where their homes are being bombed, often as a result of 'western culture' powers actions, and not just 'they are all trying to get to the place where the 'best' culture is ?

I am not really suggesting or trying to suggest here that the west is not 'better' or that Surma culture is 'better' than western culture. I personally do not see, or try not to see, such things in such 'opposed' dualities. I think Surma culture is different from western culture. I think some aspects of that culture (and any really) are probably things that any other culture could benefit from understanding and appreciating and others aspects less so.

Just saying.

Some good points mate.

I dunno though....
Surma tribe still falls under Ethiopia.

Life expectancy 63
Illiteracy above 90% (western standards)
Ethnic violence and neglected tropical diseases that could be easily controlled with Western medicine.
If that's what makes them happy, so be it.

Just saying.

I have noticed that many Europeans before they come to Africa they do some kind of research or something. Many even take a language course; study something about the cultures and the traditions of the people and even dress for the journey, with their back-pack, hiking boots and the whole nine. On the other hand many of the African descendents do not follow this route, (not saying that they should, it’s just an observational comparison) most just get a ticket and come. Now that is good and all, but herein lays the drama…. We, when we reach Africa, complain about everything, everything you can imagine. Don’t understand the people, the cultures not to mention the language. We are not humble, not to mention patient and or understanding. Many don’t even realize that, too many Ethiopians our manner is very crude and disrespectful.

How could that be? We Rasta are supposed to be the royal of the royalist, the humble of the humblest, and the righteous of the righteous? Surely this would be someone you would want to embrace, and call brother or sister. So how are Rastas perceived by the average Ethiopian? Well, you might be surprised to know that, Rasta’s are not looked upon in the positive; every possible negative-stereotype you can imagine is here waiting to be attached to you. Perhaps not because you have done or said anything wrong, it’s just that you are not the first to come and won’t be the last, the novelty is worn off, and many who have come before you have been involved in some very contrary behaviors. And these are the ones that people talk of, and those who are doing good and living good hardly get mentioned in this light.

The images do not depict Western way of life at all, as most on this forum can testify to, most who actually LIVE and work in the west including Erolz, these are but a handful of deranged lunatics on the fringes.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not racist.
I hate everybody... except for Cypriots.
