At the present time, unless Tim earns less than €15K, he is not entitled to state health care in Cyprus.

The earnings limit doesn't apply to pensioners.

All the details are here http://www.moh.gov.cy/Moh/MOH.nsf/All/9 ... 20CARD.pdf

Of course, there is supposed to be a comprehensive national health service in the pipeline. But ... when?

That is why I said "at the present time".

Even if they do, I doubt whether the administration side of the operation will change and in my experience that is where the system is sadly lacking!

CBBB: Thank you for the link. I did find one also and that said that if Tim does earn more than €15k, and/or has no MoH Registration Card, he can still use the system ....... but pays a bit more. What I get for €3, a visit to a Doctor, he pays €15, a visit to a specialist costs me €6 he has to pay €30 and fees for an in-patient stay are made (modest but so is the service!)....... but we both pay €10 if we attend A&E in an emergency.

The fees for those not entitled to free health care can be quite significant. I spent 10 days in Nicosia General, had quite a major operation and was presented with a bill for €4,500, so I went the next day and obtained a Medical card which I am entitled to, and they wiped out the bill.

My mother passed away in a private clinic where she spent the last two and a half days of her life, and I went in next morning to foot the bill for €2,430! And I wasn't even offered a cup of coffee or tea, or even a single word of consolation!
