UK Government refuses to guarantee EU citizens

Postby Paul ZKTV » Mon Jul 04, 2016 8:54 pm

Government refuses to guarantee EU citizens living in UK can stay
Minister says it would be unwise to offer guarantee without assurances about UK nationals living in other EU countries

Robin hood - here is your starter for 10

The only way to decide the matter would be as part of reciprocal negotiations with other EU countries about British nationals living elsewhere in the bloc, Brokenshire said, rather than offering unilateral guarantees.

He condemned May’s comment on Sunday that “nobody necessarily stays anywhere forever”

WHEN SHE GETS KICKED OUT IN THE GENERAL ELECTION I HOPE SOMEONE SAYS THAT TO HER ..

Nothing changes ........ Cyprus/UK will agree to continue their reciprocal arrangement because it is of mutual benefit.

If Cyprus forces these Brits to leave Cyprus, their economy will lose maybe €300-400m a year in income from just pensions or even more. Unemployment will rocket and property prices will collapse completely, and the UK tourist market would significantly decline ...... stop gloating it ain't going to happen! :

That is the most likely scenario, but it is not guaranteed.

That would still not cover Brits, like TIm, working here, they would not be able to be treated the same as EU citizens.

who said ANYTHING about the UK giving up its bases - Thats got NOTHING to do with the EU ...
except that those troops get paid in EUROS so thats 30 million less for cyprus even on your ´alice´ figures ..

I don't think any EU country would have a problem continuing to provide current British residents the rights they now have.
It's the UK itself that will have a problem doing the same for those originating from Eastern EU countries, now residing in the UK .
So what kind of deal is the UK upto? One that would protect her own people and fck the rest???

If he has a work permit and pays his dues, why should he be treated any differently to any other worker. You see plenty of Philipina's/Vietnamese/Sri Lancan's, even Turks in the General Hospital receiving treatment. Once he meets the requirements for contribution he should be treated no differently to a Cypriot.

He will only get a work permit if he can show there is no Cypriot or other EU citizen that can do his job.

Now let me see, how many people that are EU citizens do we have in Cyprus that can translate between Turkish and English?

50,000, 100,000?

You forgot ...................................taxes. Image

Isn't this a storm in a tea cup though?

Europe has been saying there can be no formal or informal negotiations about post-exit matters until A50. Now there's criticism of May's (the hot Tory leader favourite) unwillingness to unilaterally guarantee the rights of the 3M EU citizens living in the UK.

AIUI that will be a subject for negotiation along with the rights of the 2M UK citizens residing in the EU. Sauce for the goose?

To read some of the stuff being pumped out you could think that there's a secret plan to deport all Europeans on day 1. Image

As if it really matters with the UK facing disintegration, but I am actually self-employed.

it isn't disintegrationg - and won't. Although, judging by a lot of stuff in the media and on the social networks there are any number of people who would like to see it do so, in order to petulantly validate their POV.

Nothing like love of country to bring a warm feeling to the heart.
