So here I am slaving away trying to grow some fresh vegetables or caring for my pretty plants and flowers, when your filthy lazy feline comes along; usually in the evenings as the sun sets, to dig up holes and crap all over my flower beds!

I'm not a cat lover either.
I love dogs, that's not to say everyone is either.

I don’t really hate any animals… but I *do* hate people who feed them keeping them in our neighborhoods which leads to every other problem.

A cat’s natural habitat in not suburbia.

Some years back I recall that feeding cats with left overs at Dasoudi Beach Restaurant was actively discouraged by staff. The cats would gather around your table in the hope that a diner would offer them a little something. Left overs obviously once cleared by the staff would end up in a bin. I did not take kindly to being told not to feed the cats. Why I asked ? Because you are encouraging the cats to make a nuisance of them selves!!

It has all changed now since the majority of " customers" tend to be Eastern Europeans, mostly Russians, and Eastern Europeans love animals, not only cats and dogs but all animals. Waiting staff are also mostly Eastern Europeans.

The cats now are well fed, have become friendlier since young children pick them up and make a fuss of them, my three grandchildren adore the cats giving some of them names.

What annoys me most is that rather than offer animals food left overs a preference is given to binning them, the left overs.

I respect the rights of domestic animals to their food and drink , cats have been in Cyprus for millenniums, " The Cyprus cat is a landrace of domestic cat believed to be descended from cats of Egypt or Palestine brought to Cyprus by St. Helen to rid the island of snakes and vermin. "

Rubbish. You're just not a true-true Cypriot! :P

Oldest Known Pet Cat? 9,500-Year-Old Burial Found on Cyprus
The carefully interred remains of a human and a cat were found buried with seashells, polished stones, and other decorative artifacts in a 9,500-year-old grave site on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. This new find, from the Neolithic village of Shillourokambos, predates early Egyptian art depicting cats by 4,000 years or more.
More recently, cat jawbones and other remains not directly linked to human burials have revealed that wild cats were at least associated with early Neolithic settlements on Cyprus, Vigne said.

Cats are that sort of animal. If you try to approach one and befriend it, they are most likely to have none of it. If you have food, they will all come close, you will befirend some but most will still be averse to your advance to befriend or stroke it. The cat comes to you when you ignore it then it tries to get your attention, if it wants. Cats are bad ass. I really like dogs too. They have very different characters.

Funnily enough, I have befriended few stray cats in Cyprus and they all came to me, The recent one I have befriended lives in the neighbourhood and usually spends time around my apartment building. She basically follows me whenever she sees me and wants to climb all over me. There was another one before that walked with me for about a km.

There are many strays in Cyprus unfortunately and not feeding them does not make them go away. I dissaprove of any abuse and maltreatment of animals.
