God is a human invention to explain everything we don't understand. Humans albeit stupid, know the boundaries of their logic, and assign everything beyond that to God. It has always been like that. Priests attached a social code to God that seemingly serves everybody well, and voila the various religions came up.
Basically every pillar of our civilization is based on fear.You name it: technology calms our fear Vs nature, theology calms the human fear for DEATH etc etc.
