Garyllis in full flow

Postby Tim Drayton » Thu Dec 22, 2016 10:59 am

It was nice to see the Garyllis in full flow through Limassol today after the steady rain we had all night. Not a sight I have seen for about three years. An especially welcome sight following three years of drought.

I get the feeling from my limited number of years in Cyprus that once it starts raining heavily in the winter, it keeps on being rainy until the spring. Am I right in thinking that there is a pattern like this? I hope so because we desperately need the rain.

I think you're right.
It comes in cycles.
And when it comes, it comes like there's no tomorrow.
Same applies during the drought cycle.

Footage? That was Thursday. I have no idea if it is still flowing. I haven't been in that part of town since. This is Cyprus. If the dry river bed fills up with flowing water for a day, that's news.

Ermm...

I don't think it's a day scenario dude.
It gets fed from the mountains and ends up in the sea.

Anyway.
Some footage from Feb 2016.

Tseri has a little stream called “katouris”… notice how all Cypriot rivers/streams are named to reflect drought? :)
