Camping sites in Cyprus

Postby Kenneth » Thu Jan 05, 2006 11:34 am

you folks got any links to any camp sites? the ones I have found myself have been very dead for a long time i guess.
is it legal to set up a tent for a night as long as it is some distance away from civilization, like in Sweden ?

I'd like to get some info on this too. We're bringing all of our camping gear to Cyprus and hopefully, we'll get to use it.

Camp sites

Postby annecollings » Mon Jan 09, 2006 11:49 am

I know of a camp site at a place called Governors Beach (half way between Limassol & Larnaka) but not of a web site. I believe there are some camp sites up Troodos also. I don't think anyone would bother you if you set up camp in remote areas, so long as it wasn't long term. Also I would beware of snakes and creepy crawlies in the spring summer!!! Good Luck.

These is one in Polis Chrysohous and I believe somewhere near Ayia Napa also. I don't think they have websites though.

Hmm haven't thought about snakes (yikes)

I guess the local tourist office will know about those camp sites then.

Nah, dont worry... just eat a lot of garlic.... :) I've been to the Polis site several times, and except August period, it is quite good. There are some more on the mountains, one is close to Trooditissa monastery, but it can be quite cold these days... (I know from experience!), unless you have winter gear which is usually not available locally. Basically you can camp whenever you want if it is away from house, motorways and you dont stay there to avoid paying the monthly rent of your house!!! Personally Cyprus still lacks behind in this area, as all the sites do not have all the ammendements, like lockers, etc. and only the Polis one has shower facilities as far as I know. And in this case you can take your mobile shower as I usually do.
