Bird Flu

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

As i understand the problem it's not eating a cooked bird that is the biggest problem. Isn't it coming into contact with live birds that has got eveyone scared and the actuall transference of a disease that should only affect birds over to humans? Please forgive me if i have it completely wrong.

There's no problem from eating meat that's been properly cooked.

But on a lighter note, the US Centre for Disease Control has released a list of symptoms of bird flu.

If you experience any of the following, please seek medical treatment immediately:

1. High fever
2. Congestion
3. Nausea
4. Fatigue
5. Aching in the joints
6. An irresistible urge to cr*p on someone's windscreen.

You are in danger, especially when you deal with raw flesh, like head etc. But this was always a danger for any disease, guys. Flue, at least in Cy, was here for many decades, as many old people told me about. They have even told me the name of this flue, but I cannot recall it now.

:?: Not sure what was meant by importing disease to GREECE? This is CYPRUS isnt it? Test results are still not through, but all the birds in the village were slaughtered. By the way - it also felt that its more likely to be imported by migrating birds than by people! Perhaps Turkey (and CYPRUS) should ban these birds from using their air-space!!!!!!!!!!

they say cooking for 10 min on high heat will kill the virus ..but what about before cook?how will a person take the chicken put it in a pot to boil it without touching it ? lol ı dont know ..but there is sth wrong here ..

Just came in:

29 January 2006 -- The European Commission said today that tests on samples from birds in northern Cyprus had revealed they had died of the deadly H5N1 strain of the virus.

The EU executive said in a statement it had banned the import of live animals or animal products from the Turkish-Cypriot enclave into the EU.

The Green Line divides the internationally recognized Greek-Cypriot south of the island from the breakaway Turkish Cypriot state in the north.

The lethal H5N1 bird flu strain has been detected in birds found dead in northern Cyprus, according to the European Commission.

The commission has ordered an immediate freeze on the transfer of live animals or animal products across the island's Green Line border or to the EU.

Neighbouring Turkey has been battling with an outbreak of the H5N1 strain, which has killed at least four people.

The lethal strain has killed about 80 people, mostly in Asia, since 2003.
