BREXIT Countdown - Bye Bye Britain, Bye Bye!

Postby GreekIslandGirl » Mon Mar 27, 2017 9:02 pm

I know some forumers have been burying their heads in the sand, hoping their calls for 'grexit' or a Euro disintegration would happen before A50 was on the table. But with a day to go, it's looking unlikely. Britain will be sailing away into pastures new, drifting from the Continent ... alone.

Finally, Theresa May is preparing her speech to say goodbye to Tusk et al... :P

Let's wish the UK 'Good Luck' and keep an eye on its progress. :)

This is going to be a heck of an experiment!
And if it fails then no problem. They can always apply to re-join, isn't it so GIG?

Sure, once the Brits agree to turn over their bases to the RoC, for the RoC to allow them back in!

I hope Scotland is able to do a Scexit on the UK and May. If that happens, I will try to convert my British passport to a Scottish one if they enter the EU. :D

Actually, I do think when the next generation (the 18-20 year olds that voted to Remain) move into positions of power, it's something they might move towards.

Off the OP slightly but ....... I wouldn't count your chickens yet! It could well be a case of 'Bye, bye earth' if this happens ...... and it's what Trump is planning to do to make America great again!

Looks like we are all doomed then? In spite of this system being deployed, even if it is used in a pre-emptive strike Russia would have more than enough to retaliate and that will be that ..... nobody wins! It appears that Trump is as bad as Hillary .... just a bit slower out of the blocks?

US Navy Prepares Decapitating Attack Against Russia

The US preemptive nuclear strike capability has significantly grown. The strategic nuclear forces modernization program has implemented new revolutionary technologies to vastly increase the targeting capability of the US submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) arsenal.

The Bulletin of American Scientists reports that as a result of improvements in the killing power of US SLBMs, they carry more than three times the number of warheads needed to destroy the entire fleet of Russian land-based missiles. Since only part of the W76 force would be needed to eliminate Russia’s silo-based ICBMs, the United States will be left with a substantial number of higher-yield warheads that could be used for other missions.

The increase in the lethality comes from the Mk4A «super-fuze» device that since 2009 has been incorporated into the Navy’s W76-1/Mk4A warhead as part of a decade-long life-extension program.

The super-fuze capability is now operational on all nuclear warheads deployed on the Navy’s Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines. The new fuze has also been installed on British SLBMs.

It provides for an adjustable height-of-burst as it arrives. The fuze is designed to destroy fixed hard targets by detonating above and around a target in a much more effective way. Warheads that would otherwise overfly a target and land too far away will now, because of the new fuzing system, detonate above the target. Explosions that occur near and above the ground over a target can be lethal to it. This above-target area is known as a «lethal volume»; the detonation of a warhead of appropriate yield in this volume will result in the destruction of the target. The result of this fuzing scheme is a significant increase in the probability that a warhead will explode close enough to destroy the target even though the accuracy of the missile-warhead system has itself not improved. Thus, an enhanced fuze would allow the United States to reduce the number of warheads on its ballistic missile submarines, but increase the targeting effectiveness of the fleet.

That's going to be a very interesting development. I think the UK will find it difficult justifying having the Bases, even now, as they Brexit. There was an article a while back that stated returning the Bases could be an option for obtaining a softer Brexit.

Yes, the blackmailing by May to gain softer Brexit does not surprise me at all. The truth of the matter is, if the British economy takes a turn for the worst post Brexit, it will be difficult to maintain the bases in Cyprus anyway, therefore, they will be looking for ways to unload them.

I need to renew my RoC passport one of these days, for sure. It will be a good reason to make a trip to Cyprus soon to do that.

I keep meaning to get my application in for citizenship so that I can join you and retain my EU rights. I lived in Scotland for fifteen years, have Scottish highers and graduated from a Scottish university. I wonder if that will count for anything towards getting Scottish citizenship? Sadly, it's a case of each man and woman for themself as the ship goes down. I know my neice and her husband, currently working as school teachers in the UK, are applying for jobs abroad. As to the idiots who believe the pap served up to them by the likes of Rupert Murdoch that 'Post-Brexit Britain is booming' and the architects of 'project fear' are eating 'humble pie', well, they will have to learn the hard way that the negative effects of Brexit will only be felt after it happens.
