Overnight Vets in the capital

Postby marnic » Wed Jan 11, 2006 10:38 am

I don't know about the other cities in Cyprus but in Nicosia this is a fact. A week ago my dog got sick and was throwing up constantly all night. I couldn't give her anything to stop vomiting, no water, no medicines as she continued throw up.

At 11 o'clock in the evening i tried to call my doctor on his self phone but it was disabled. I called a friend and gave me a couple of other vets numbers. I could not find anyone. There was not one overnight vet in the capital?

After an hour and by accident i found the self phone of a vet in Ayios Minas Veterinary Clinic. The vet was really helpfull and cheap and thanks to him my dog is ok now. Don't know what would happen if she wasn't taken to the vet that night.

But in the whole city shouldn't be more than one overnight vet?

In a city the size of Nicosia, I would have thought one emergency vet would be sufficient.

Our dog started choking one Sunday night, about 22.30, after a leak in the garden, and was obviously distressed. I phoned our vet's emergency no., in Larnaca. He asked me to bring him to the surgery immediately (we live in a village 25 min from Larnaca). When we arrived, the vet AND his assistant were ready, waiting for us. They appraised the situation, anaesthetised the dog and did a bronchoscopy which enabled them to extract a grass seed he must have inhaled. We left the surgery at about midnight, only £35 lighter in weight. This was the best emergency vet service I've encountered anywhere in the world.

It was by accident that i found the doctors mobile number. My vet has his mobile phone disabled. Now that i know I won't have a problem. But if it was more emergency like your dog had i don't think that she would be alive right now.

The doctors in Ayios Minas clinic are both very good. And the fees are very good. I paid 25 pounds when i took the dog at midnight.
