Hi,

Trying to research this online but it's hard to find exact answers. Anyone on here know what the best provider for data is? I'm not really concerned with the cost of calls or text, I mainly use viber/whatsapp and social media so is there any company that offers an unlimited plan for a reasonable cost?

If we are talking about best in terms of bandwidth and price then Cablenet by far, but they are only available inside cities, and they have to come and add a cable to your house/apartment so probably you will need the consent of the apartment owner to do that. http://cablenet.com.cy/en/ If Cablenet is not an option then Primetel http://primetel.com.cy/en/

My answer above is for fixed line, but now I read your question again I guess you mean mobile data plan. In that case scrap cablenet. Try Primetel, MTN and Cyta ... which package is best for you depends on how much data you need and if it will be prepaid or monthly (probably prepaid in your case). https://www.cyta.com.cy/soeasy-plans/en If you need nearly no Calls or SMS, then get SoEasy Classic with €10 top up card which has validity for 1 year, and then every 30 days add a "Mobile Internet 2GB" for €15. https://www.cyta.com.cy/soeasy-top-up/en

I find it ironic that costs are less with my native phone in Cyprus than in my home country (e.g for calls to a 3rd EU country)

There's a fair usage policy, so basically you only have a certain amount of data and then you're charged close to a euro per MB.

It depends on the company. I have been topping up data while in Cyprus and after spending the whole month's quota there. The costs for that; just like being home (4GB for a little more than 5€).

My data plan includes 1GB, so most months I have to top up. An additional 4GB is the only choice at a price of 5-6€. It doesn't matter where this data is consumed as long as it is within the EU. I called the provider before going to Cyprus last summer and asked if there was some small print somewhere, but there wasn't. I came to Cyprus late June. No roll over, so after a weeks in CY i had to top up for July.
My company pays for the plan and probably gets some nice deals for add-ons. I frankly don't know the basic cost (probably it does not have the most reasonable base cost), but I could easily get a 1GB plan here for 14€/month (including unlimited calls/sms/mms) or a 6GB for 38€ that would work the same way (leading to the conclusion that 24€ is a more normal price for 5GB)
