There is lots of racism and stereotyping in this thread. Cyprus welcomes all immigrants who can have a positive contribution just like most other countries do. The article talks about "50,000-strong Russian community" in Limassol. Do you really think that all these people are "millionaire oligarchs" who came to Cyprus by buying passports? No, the 99% of these people are just regular immigrants who either don't have CY citizenship yet or it took them many many years to get one, and they could have emigrated and done the same to the UK, Germany, Australia or any other country.

The Island is a testimony of unrelenting homogenous character.
Unlike the Greeks and Turks, Cypriots evolve with the times yet retain their Cypriot core roots.

There's a really good chance these Russians will be Cypriotized after a period of time.
(And probably munching on Halloumi and Souvla before long)

These foreigners don't get Cypriotized.

No one goes to Cyprus to be Cypriotized. If they went to the USA or Australia, they would likely be Anglicized. The reason of course is they would make money and that is what they are all about.

In Cyprus case, they are only in it for the EU passport. In the meantime, they will open their Casinos and Brothels and prey on your youth for a Dollar, and they will important their Cristal meth and Heroin from Turkey, yes Turkey.

Why do you think there are more Russians in the Occupied than British carpetbaggers?

If that is the kind of money you want, then good luck to you. But a word of warning, This kind of money brings about an unnatural bubble too, like we had with the Cypriot Banks (again with Russian money). When the pull the rug, and they will, the come down will be very dire and catastrophic.

Be quiet Paphitis!

There are LOTS of successful Cypro-Russian marriages these days in Cyprus (one of my wife’s first cousins too) and they are indeed absolutely wonderful, family oriented people.

They have started to fund gorgeous churches too, the ones with the majestic golden domes and they take your breath away inside and out… I’ve been to the very first; which is about 10km from where I live (located at Pera Orinis) and was awestruck! The domes had to be imported though.

So quit yapping from a distance because you are clueless as to what is happening here these days.

Να ζήσουν τα παιδιά .

But not all of them are running the Cyprus underworld. I certainly hope not anyway for your cousin's sake.

Many of them might work for them though. And the Russians have an extremely high proportion of involvement in seedy businesses such as Brothels, and Casinos. No amount of Church building will change that. You know, those who build church's and want to be recognized for their "works" are not pleasing to God. The one who is pleasing to God is the poor man or women who partakes in joyful Alms-giving or the person in the background who helps build a Church but wants no recognition for it. It's between that person and the creator.

You keep bringing Russians to Cyprus, they will take you over. After a while, Cypriots will be the same as Greeks since Greeks are Slavs then so too Cypriots will become.

You will lose your identity. You will lose your identity between these Russians and Turks.

Nothing I can do about it. Nothing you can do about it either. but you will not like the Cyprus of the future. I know I won't.

I m so racist I know. But what can I do?

Between Russians, Turks, Vietnamese, I would have a mental break down. I refuse to walk into Vietnamese shops. If I see a Vietnamese shop assistant I walk out. Funnily enough though, I can tolerate Russian and Turkish shop assistants. Some of my favourite shops are either Turkish or Afghan. :?

Lebanese too. Arghhhhhhh!

Arabs (Real Muislims) I'm cool with. Because they are clean and polite.

Asiktir vlaka.

You think it makes an ounce of difference to me whether you think I know anything about Cyprus or not?

You are only 700,000 odd thousand Greek Cypriots. What you do think all these Russians are doing to your demographics? If I wanted to experience some Russian, I would go to Russia and I am scheduled to go this year for a sports holiday vlaka (World Cup). I have worked with many Russians as well. They are nice.

I don't have an issue with Russians and like you I use to date one for a while too. Kind off.

The kind of Russian that comes to Limassol to buy a 15 million dollar house, is not the kind of Russian I got that much time for. I mean hello. Who owns all the brothels and Casinos and are these the kind of Russians you think are nice people?

What Cyprus underworld? What we’ve got is peanuts!

You get your misinformation from American, Australian, and British junk media.

America has turned into total trash because successive super-corrupt governments have been sponsoring terrorism both inside and outside the US, and you still read their FAKE “news”?

You should know better Paphitis…

You got an underworld alright Get Real. You need to get out.

You got kids OD'ing now on Crystal meth. Go to the night bars. Go to the Casinos as well. As a married man I will not tell you to do anything else. I didn't either just to be abundantly very clear. But I remember doing it as a very young lad. The Russians were in Athens more than 20 years ago and owned many of the Athenian cabarets, and other businesses and they would traffic eastern Women. Usually very poor Russian and Ukrainian women who were vulnerable and easy to exploit. That is what they do.

I never noticed any Americans or Brits owning these businesses, but the Russians and Albanians were up to their eye balls in filth.

A couple of years ago, I went to drown my sorrows at a Russian owned business. The owner would sit next to me and had like 5kg of chains around his neck. I didn't pay for a single drink, but the man was very intimidating too. Not someone you would fuck with.

:? We don’t have casinos… never seen any, and the once thriving cabarets have closed down ages ago.

Not sure what you’re on about Paphitis... you can go to nightclubs and pubs (which I do with my wife and friends 3-4 times a year) and you’ll find Cypriots and Russians dancing away to mostly Greek music!

They are exactly the same as us... frappe... blah-blah... oppa dancing...

Yes you do.

Go to Paphos to Odos Digenis Akritas and the corner of the main drag on the way to the Center where the Police Barracks are. Everyone knows there are Casinos in Cyprus.

There is a Casino right there and out the front is a huge Limousine which I presume they use to bring in the high rollers or big spenders.

There is a Casino right there mate. Big lights all over the place too, so I am sure the police knew about it too.

You guys accuse me of not knowing Cyprus?
