Cypriot Citizenship Grandson

Postby Londoner_1011 » Sun Mar 25, 2018 9:58 pm

Hello all,

I have a brief question regarding citizenship. My grandfather was Cypriot and was born there in 1915 and moved to the UK in the early 1950s. My mother was born in the UK soon after and was a British citizen. Sadly both have since passed away. Is there any chance I am eligible for Cypriot citizenship or none at all as I presume?

Thanks
Nicolas

So I am guessing your grandfather never had the Cypriot citizenship since he moved to UK before 1960?

If he was born in Cyprus to Cypriot parents then he is a citizen irrespective of before or after 1960.

I believe you can apply for citizenship, but you'll have many hoops to jump through to prove the line of heritage.

Good luck.

If you've lived in the UK for more than half a century, dodged your military service and lived like a μέγας ποντικός all your life, I can see no reason why YOU can't claim citizenship, I know an old geezer who proclaims himself a 'Great Patriot' and has a 'CV' exactly like that.

Pervert, this individual asked a very civil question. Kerp your perverted mind out of this thread.

My mistake, I thought you might be too busy fishing to notice anything other than your 'Anastasis'......(Arsastasis might be a better title).

If you're of the island, you're Cypriot.
It's an identity of its own,

If you can't relate, you're probably an Anatolian Balkan fu**stick foreigner wannabe.

To be a citizen you need to have the citizenship and if he moved from Cyprus in the 50s then he was probably not a citizen of Cyprus. You have to draw the line somewhere, otherwise somebody can claim Cypriot citizenship because his great great great great grandparent was from Cyprus. I think 1960 is where the line is drawn... but maybe I am wrong.

You are wrong Sotos, you can claim it back 7 generations. When you are born in a country to citizens you automatically become a citizen. the date of 1960 is irrelevant.
