Can any Paphites on here recommend a classy restaurant in Paphos? What’s the reccomended best restaurant in town?

When I visited Cyprus and Paphos back in 2007, we went to a local Restaurant/Tavern just outside the town away from the tourist trap. It is called the „7 St. George’s Tavern“. Very good family restaurant by George the owner. I have just googled it and it is still in business.

My serious answer…

There are some nice restaurants kato-Paphos at the little harbor where that pelican used to roam. There’s like 3-4 in a row there and they’re all good.

Alternatively, you can go to any 5 star hotel (Holiday Inn?) for a good feast and piano bar for drinks.

Yes, it’s still there and run by George and family. Excellent food. He still gives new diners a “brief” before their meal, telling them what to expect. He also promises to keep it coming, until you’ve had enough - with a stern warning “As long as you eat it all that is”.

25 years - for a lucky one.

When I first started to go to Paphos, 1975, IIRC, it was then a fishing village with zero hotels and just 2 tavernas. Kings and The Pelican. I guess that Big Bird would be the great-great Granddad of the present incumbent.

Back then Tombs of the Kings was situated in a wilderness. Now I think it’s part of central Paphos.

Thanks for the good news Londonrake, that the restaurant is still dishing out good food.

This is what I wrote about this restaurant back in 2007.

We made it back to our hotel, about 2 hours later than planned, so it was time for another feast, so we went to what was to be our favourite Tavern in our whole trip to Cyprus. It is called "7 St. Georges Tavern" in Paphos. George the owner and me got along just fine. We were like father and son with passion for food. We were talking about food as young men talk about sex. I had found my "food soul mate". George brought food from the kitchen for me. That was for his personal use, like sweet breads and kidney. The meats he had cooked were absolutely fantastic. At the end, he brought out a Banana pudding and Lemon pudding. They were just beyond description. He brought me into his kitchen to show me some of his other cooked foods that were being put in a jar, to be preserved. I had to take pictures with him, and I did. I offered to come back and work for him for free, for couple of weeks, in exchange learning his cooking methods. He said anytime I wanted to come, it would be his pleasure. I will take his offer, sooner than later. I need to e-mail him soon, to get the recipes for the puddings, since it was his wife’s.
