1462mm of rain

Postby Paphitis » Mon Feb 04, 2019 6:03 pm

Just arrived from a place that just had 1462mm of rain in a single day.

That is 3 times the annual rainfall of all of Cyprus in a single day.

They are getting another 1000 mm over the next 48 hours.

We just got in the other night on Emergency Priority. First plane to get in that day.

They have had over 2000 mm with another 1000 forecast.

Yeh it was a nice job. Airport was closed just before we got in and was opened just for us because of who we were carrying and we got in. It remained opened for our departure and when we left it was closed again.

We were worried we couldn’t get in because of the weather but we ended up breaking out of the cloud at 500 feet, 200 from the minima. It was a relief because we were under some pressure getting in because of who we had onboard.

We had Head of State priority.

As soon as we took off, planes were vectored out of our way and we were given priority clearances all the way in. The only other planes to be allowed in were military transports bringing in emergency and medical supplies.

Now listen here old chum. I only mentioned it because of the volume of rain which to me and most normal people is mind boggling and insane. I have never before heard or experienced such a big monsoon as this. The amount of rain here is actually quite biblical. Like you know, the bit in the Old Testament that talks about the rain that never stops.

Although your stories are usually fake, I still like them, koala.

BTW, here in CY, it has been raining nonstop for the last 30 hours...

I have a question for Paphitis...

How often do you ask “Chicken or beef?” on an average work day? :?

My stories are not fake.

But I also don't care if you think they are fake or not. Why? because it is none of your business, and I shouldn't be telling people what I do for a living. It isn't right.

If I told you what I actually do for a living, no one is going to believe me and I will get accused of showing off. I am not like that.

But anyway, who cares right? I don't expect anyone to believe me and it is just a job. But I do have fun and I do love my job and that is the main thing. I truly don't feel like I work, that is the hallmark of loving what you do. Now, you can just say I sweep runways. That is fine by me. But I must love sweeping runways let me tell you. :D

I just got back from Townsville again on a priority pick up or sweep btw. I do a lot of very interesting things each week. I love it...

Plus, its pretty easy to find out what I do. But again, I don't expect you or anyone else to believe it and its none of your business what I do. I have only met 2 people from this forum in real life and they know what I do and I consider them my friends. I would generally try and catch up with them in Melbourne if I can. That's where I go for sweeper training to hone my sweeping skills.

BTW, when we are saying rain, Townsville has been declared a natural disaster zone and is flooded. It has had over 3500 mm of rain. I think that is more rain than Cyprus gets in 7 years. People have died or are missing, and houses have been destroyed too. because there was so much water, it required extra sweeping. 8)
