They need to explain this in more detail, otherwise the Chief of Police is just a political scapegoat.

President Nicos Anastasiades on Friday dismissed the chief of police over the force’s perceived failures to properly investigate the cases of missing women in the past three years who eventually turned out to be victims of a serial killer.

I will explain....

They are mentioning percieved (what does that mean) failures of the police to properly investigate the cases of missing women.

Perceived = does this mean its not real? It sure sounds like it.

I have a question!

How many illegal immigrants are at large in Cyprus?

50000

100000

or 150,000?

And do these illegals actually want to be found. I bet they don't! Which makes policing very difficult indeed.

You can put in a missing person's report in Australia. The police will take down the details. They will put photos up on their missing person's website, ask around and generally they will try and find the missing person.

But what are the chances if the person doesn't want to be found or is in some mine shaft 500m underground in Cooper Pedy?

Now, let's say you went to CyPoL and put in a missing person's report in. They will do what they can, but let's say the person is in a suitcase at the bottom of a murky lake somewhere in Cyprus. How the fuck was CyPOL suppose to know that? What if it was an alien worker and they skipped the country through the occupied? I have heard that many of these foreign workers go to the occupied to work there once their VISA is out.I have also heard that many of these foreign workers also work at night as call girls. Lordo even bragged about it.

So there is that. Saying that the Commissioner didn't investigate because they were foreigners seems to be fake news to me and actually quite slanderous.

Was it because they were foreigners or because there isn't much they could do? Because I don't really see Australian Police looking every day for any one of the 45,000 missing people in Australia either, probably because they know it is futile or a bit like pissing against the wind.

Sure, they will go out if a Toddler was lost by its parents at the Mall, but would they expend the same energy if an adult mysteriously disappeared from their home for a week? Probably not.

There are many things CyPol would have presumed as far more likely to be the case with missing foreign workers, such as:

1) they are working in the RoC illegally as illegal immigrants,
2) they now work in the occupied areas where they are safe from deportation.
3) they are working as call girls.

There was no reason to suspect a Serial Killer. Especially in a country that has had no Serial killer in its history.

But of course Cyprus Mail will never mention anything like that. Much better to accuse CyPOL as not caring or bothering because the missing were foreigners! That they would put more effort in if the missing were Cypriots.

Point proven. You just can't handle criticism. Even your own president has accepted the failure of the police but forum members wont.

Ok you spoilt, attention seeking little whore. Being a peasant I have problems understanding what I sometimes read. Please read the below and explain it to me in detail, like those books for "dummies" I learn everything reading those, in fact I owe my success to them

President Nicos Anastasiades on Friday dismissed the chief of police over the force’s perceived failures to properly investigate the cases of missing women in the past three years who eventually turned out to be victims of a serial killer.

The dismissal, which is effective from May 7, was announced in a letter to the chief published by the presidency.

In his letter to the chief, the president said the apparent lapses in the investigation of missing persons reports that resulted in the failure to detect and possibly prevent the atrocious crimes that shocked Cypriot society led him to “the unpleasant decision to terminate your services as chief of the Cyprus police force.”

Anastasiades said the person in charge of an authority, even if they do not bear personal responsibility, is called on to assume the responsibility of restoring its prestige, which was hurt as a result of their subordinates’ actions.

Zacharias Chrysostomou had met the president on Friday morning, a day after Justice Minister Ionas Nicolaou resigned for the same reason.

The chief was under immense pressure following the police’s perceived failures in investigating the cases of missing foreign women who turned up dead, victims of a serial killer who has so far claimed five women and two children.

I'm particularly confused about the Justice Minister Nicolaou. Why did he resign?

Those are all empty words you ignorant dick head peasant. What Paphitis articulated is the reality on how difficult it is to find missing immigrants who are more than likely illegal in the country and are not registered, let alone assume they were killed by some serial killer. Get Real ffs.

Now, however you look at this case. Whatever angle you look at it from it just bloody stinks. The President of the RoC, the Justice Minister, the Chief of Police. None of these people of authority made any reference to any of the crap posted by Bafidi and applauded by his lapdog, attention seeking Kikapu. It is a simple case of negligence on behalf of the Cypriot Police Force. They failed because these people simply didn't matter.

Cyprus president sacks police chief over serial killer investigation
Nicos Anastasiades criticises botched inquiries after man admits to seven murders

The president of Cyprus has fired the country’s police chief, saying botched missing person investigations might have allowed a self-confessed serial killer to claim more victims.

The move by Nicos Anastasiades on Friday came the day after Cyprus’s justice minister resigned, amid intensifying criticism of police for mistakes in following up on the disappearances of some of the seven foreign women and girls a 35-year-old army captain has told authorities he killed.

In a letter to the police chief, Zacharias Chrysostomou, Anastasiades said the head of any organisation must take responsibility for the actions of subordinates.

The “apparent negligence or failure of police personnel to carry out an investigation on missing persons” possibly contributed to the “abhorrent crimes that have shaken Cypriot society”, the president wrote.

The suspect, identified as Nikos Metaxas, told investigators he disposed of his victims’ bodies in an abandoned mineshaft, a poisonous lake and a pit at a military firing range. The oldest killing was in 2016.

Immigrant rights activists have accused the police of not investigating when foreign workers are reported missing. The victims include three Filipino women; a six-year-old girl who was the daughter of one of the Filipino women; a Romanian mother and daughter; and a woman believed to be from Nepal.

Earlier on Friday, Anastasiades met diplomats from the Philippines, Vietnam, India and Sri Lanka to “offer an apology on behalf of the state and the Cypriot people” about the crimes, said the government spokesman Prodromos Prodromou.

Prodromou said the president told the representatives that foreign worker complaints about rights and living conditions would be handled by the ombudsman’s office.

He said the diplomats acknowledged the killings were an isolated incident that did not correspond with the generally good experiences workers from their countries have in Cyprus.

Seriously though, why do feel compelled to stick your nose into every single fucking topic that has the slightest criticism of the RoC? Why? Her hiyara tuz oluyrsun be dustum!! WHY????????

...indeed, i too imagine that there are those who feel their "Greekness" or their "Turkishness" entitles them to think of themselves as superior. And "it" may have lead to this criminal's behaviour; his motives are more complex politically, it seems: yet none were "TC", or from the "TRNC".

All the more reason, in Cyprus, to banish this sense that while we are uniquely different, we are not the same. That some are less, by exclusion. That as Persons, Individuals can be ranked for their exploitation. All the more important for us to look at ourselves, and how we see those living around us, our own ''Greekness'' or ''Turkishness'', if you will.

All the more reason for Cypriots to take up this cause; what as Cypriots, Cypriots can do better.

...indeed, it is as is said, a watershed moment, a loss of innocence, where the Police in Cyprus can look at themselves. What they do now is a matter of their conviction to improve their capacities, and their vision. So too, the Cypriot People, who may now realise that they can do more to defend women from becoming victims of horrible crimes. It would not surprise me to see Legislation written in these victims' names.

...indeed, "This" must stop.

@MR-from-NG, i ask, what is it that makes you to be ashamed of Kiks, a Cypriot, a Turk, but no "Turk"?
