ARRANGED MARRIAGES

Postby Nampou re » Sat Jan 21, 2006 6:51 pm

Can anyone tell me if arranged marriages still exist? Has anyone met their TRUE love using this system recently? I'm asking coz a mate of mine is insisting I give it a go. (I am not desperate/ugly/too old etc, just wondering if it might be a good solution to get wed.)

Arranged marriages = Forced marriages and they obviously do not exist anymore. What continues to exist are arranged meetings. They can introduce you to somebody but you still have to get to know each and see if you match before you get married. Then there are also the fake marriages so some people can get the citizenship but I guess thats not what you want.

I believe that arranged marriages still exist in certain cultures. I knew a family in Lebanon that still practiced this. There was an 18 year old girl that married her 32 year old cousin. She had never dated anyone, never when out on her own, and hardly ever said a word. I asked a family member why she never went out - not even with friends. He answered, "There is no need for her to go out." I asked him about dating and he told me that she will be married to her cousin in two years. While they've only met each other twice, the family feels that they are a good match." They got married and are now living in the US. Whether or not they're happy...

That is imposible.
The divorce rate in Cyprus is close to 90% isn't it ?

The new joke is:
Lawyers go to wedding to get to meet future clients

I also feel that a pre arranged marriage is a no no, especially this day and age however I cant see the harm in two people being introduced to eachother in the hope to it leading to a date. I have been asked to go round to a mates to have coffee for such a meeting. Worse case senario I will not like her and not agree for a date(or viceversa). But what if we both like eachother and agree to meet-in some ways its a win win situation, there is nothing to loose.
