Meteorite??

Postby skyvet » Sat Jan 11, 2020 6:18 am

Did anyone else see what I think may have been a meteorite falling to earth in the early hours of this morning (11th January 2020)?
I was sitting outside, when, about 0415 I saw a bright white light falling rapidly and almost vertically towards the coastal area of Pyla in the vicinity of the Lordos hotel. I can only assume it went into the sea as I didn't hear any impact noise. It looked fairly spectacular whatever it was.

Dunno about meteorite mate, maybe a shooting star?
Once I witnessed a shooting star a few years ago over Paphos, Chloraka.
Was a mindfu**,....... straight line, thick and linear and stretched for quite a distance before dissipating.
I ran inside and logged onto FB to see if anybody witnessed it on social media.
Nothing.

Don't be discouraged Sky, there are phenomena taking place over CY celestial skies that most people aren't aware of.
We have the luxury of star gazing through clear skies, but most people are indoors looking at TV sets instead of being outdoors

Did a pretty good search but there's nothing. Other than the usual look outs for periodic meteor showers. Interesting though. Maybe military? Dunno. :?

Thanks for your input guys. I've done some reading on shooting stars/meteors, and I'm now convinced that's what I saw. Apparently I can now look forward to some good luck now I've seen one too! Win Win!

Apparently there was a huge one a while ago. They are calling them "Fireballs".

Israel residents were left baffled when a lager meteor fireball turned night into day.
The blue meteor was so bright it was seen in neighboring Lebanon and Cyprus.
