What is going on with CF?

Postby MR-from-NG » Mon Jan 27, 2020 4:23 pm

In total there are 59 users online :: 1 registered, 1 hidden and 57 guests (based on users active over the past 5 minutes)
Most users ever online was 2036 on September 4th, 2016, 12:02 am

I just copied and pasted the above This information we can all see at the bottom of the home page and is updated every 5 minutes. Right now we are supposed to have 59 users on line with 57 of them as guests. There has been times that you could see as many as 100+ users on line many as guests. My question is what is it these guests seeing and reading? Why has the forum come to a standstill?

It seems the forum is on a life support machine and sooner or later it's owner might pull the plug out. Do we need the likes of Lordo, GR, DT, Nikitas, Piriates etc etc back to bring it back to full health?

I run my own forum...

Most of the 'guests' (unregistered users) are bots and spammers trying to get in...

This forum has been on life support for years, all the good posters were driven away... It used to be a wonderful, lively and fun place... If it was a dog you'd put it down!

There is obviously no moderation, the software isn't up to date, it imposes ridiculous limitations (number of quotes, number of emoticons, posting too soon)...

And most discussions on here turn into ridiculous circular arguments...

It might be brought back to life if we could encourage some new users with fresh outlooks but be honest, read the top few posts - why would anybody join?

Very good points Cyprusgrump. Any chance of a link to your forum? As for this one, unless you, LR, HR and Paphitis are fighting there is nothing to read. I'm going to try and liven it up now with a new topic. Lets see if the usual suspects will magically appear

You wouldn't like my forum and membership is closed now anyway...

...but we do have 668,937 posts!

Maximum on-line was 1,020...

If you can spice this one up it would be great...

I look in now and again, but it is not the fun it used to be.

I think it is time for Milty to tell us about when he first arrived in the UK again!

Good point. Milty is a great contributor to the site and his adventures are an interesting read but of course you still get some members that attack him like a pack of hyenas which I'm sure upsets Milti and I'm sure that's why he stopped posting.

Come on Yiannis, tell us a bit about your fishing experiences on the pier.

I suspect he stopped posting because every single thing he claimed was proven wrong...

The only good thing about his posts was that it removed the need to check the exchange rate on XE...

Milti whinging on endlessly about 'The Pound in your pocket' = Pound down against the €uro
Not a word from Milti = Pound up against the €uro

To be frank I'm a little tired of the Syrian, Libyan and even the " impending" war on Iran, also this bloody aircraft crash !
The forum used to be lively and interesting. Now one or two contributors focusing on issues that have become tiresome.

I shall also over the next day or so introduce a thread or two that some will find amusing or informative.

I was not interested in all the Brexit crap that took over the forum a while ago so I stated to post less! I think forums these days are mostly for specific topics. Facebook etc are now what people use for general socializing online (personally I value my privacy so I don't use any of them)
