Hosp A&E transferred to Private Clinics A&E's......

Postby Robin Hood » Wed Apr 08, 2020 8:57 pm

My wife needed urgent treatment this morning after she collapsed at home. I rang A&E Limassol General who said don't bring her here take her straight to The Polyclinic. We did as they said. All I can say is that as usual the LH does not know what the RH is doing!

They would not even see her until she had a Covid blood test, even though she had no symptoms. But of course this test is valid only for one visit, as you could leave A&E and pick it up immediately! But ..... the test costs you Eu100 and they do not accept a GESY referral! I commented but the situation was urgent so we paid! Result in 5 minutes and back to A&E.

Only the patient allowed in, so I waited in the car. After almost 2 hrs ...... got the call "Come and collect me but ..... we have a problem!" A&E gave her a superficial check-up and said she needed an MRI, several blood tests and also needed to see a Neurosurgeon! Having been caught out on the blood test she asked if she had to pay for all this ..... YES of course, ........ and the check-up. That is when she called me!

A few short words where I pointed out that we were referred to them by A&E at the General and he said "But we are not registered with GESY!" I said politely that was their problem not mine, gave them Limassol's A&E telephone number and said to sort it out with them. Left our details and did not pay them another cent.

So be aware if you need A&E ......... make sure you have plenty of cash on you! :x I contacted GESY .... but they either have 'word recognition' doing the replies or utter morons. They were of no use and told me to contact ...... A&E at Limassol General! So back to square one!

But of course she still is poorly and needs see the specialist at least. Tomorrow is another day!

Very sorry to hear your bad news. I hope all works out well for her. These are difficult times for anyone who needs anything other than the routine. Good luck. :(

Sorry to hearn of all this.

I hope all ends well for you both. Times are certainly quite crazy and no one needs this on top of everything else.

Obviously I don’t know the full situation. Just to add though that C has had to get some checks done in the past couple of weeks (not A&E) and has had them, through GESY, at the Mediterranean (just on the Ayia Filaxis roundabout). They’re pretty good in my experience.

Thank you all for your kind words. It WAS appreciated! :)

Patient had a jab which stabilised her but still needs to see a Neurosurgeon/Neurologist. We just have to wait!

Because we went to A&E! They said they could only help but she needed an MRI, many special blood tests and a specialist, her medical record which she took with her, are akin to a medical version of War and Peace! The specialist appt. is what we now have to wait for. It is several weeks away but, her referral is to the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING) in Nicosia and they are doing a lot of the Corona Virus testing. For Mrs .......It's a long and complex story going back to 2009!

You mentioned your wife having to home teach children who could see her on their monitor but she could not see them because of the child protection legislation? I am convinced that a lot of this legislation is drawn up with a good intent ....... but is enforced and frequently misapplied by morons.

Whilst my wife was in A&E I listed to an interview on BFBS. Apparently the police in the UK are misapplying this 'essential worker' legislation and preventing hundreds of thousands of self employed people from working!

Example: Guy is self employed and repairs kitchen appliances...... wash m/c, cookers, freezers etc. He is a one man band and travels to customers by van. He gets a call from a lady with a washing machine that has packed up. He drives to the house ..... parks on her drive and talks to her on his mobile. She opens the back door to the kitchen and disappears into the house. If he needs to talkto her he calls her on the mobile. He has just got into the job when the police arrive (No doubt called by a 'curtain twitcher!)

He is told he is breaking the law as he is not an 'essential worker' and they told him to pack up his gear and leave before they fined him. But the guy was smart ..... he knew the legislation and knew the police officer was wrong. He showed the police the Government Guide lines on essential travel and work! Old Bill was not interested in listening and threatened him. He had to leave the lady in the lurch, pack up and leave.

A lawyer on the programme confirmed this guy was right and had every right to carry out his normal work. The legislation says if you cannot work from home and it is essential for you to travel to your place of work to do your normal job ..... then you are entitled to do so, providing you meet the social distancing requirements when you get there. The legislation is being translated as 'only essential workers are allowed to travel' and that is wrong. There were a couple of other examples of workers a landscape gardener and a tree surgeon, who had come up against the police throwing their weight about.

It is a rather worrying trend ...... and bodes of a Police State? Give 'em a uniform, some authority and even worse a gun, and they think THEY ARE the law! :x
