Can anyone recommend a good solicitor ?

Postby charliechoice » Fri Jan 27, 2006 9:13 pm

As we are travelling to Cyprus very shortly to view properties, I would very much appreciate the name and details of a good trustworthy solicitor
just in case we decide to purchase during our stay. Would it be best to contact a solicitor before we travel, or is it simple to arrange whilst in Cyprus ?

Regards Charlie.

Hi Charlie,

The British High Commission has a list of (presumably) decent solicitors on its web site at: http://www.britishhighcommission.gov.uk ... 2220923764

I suggest that you use a firm that's based in a different District to the one you're thinking of buying in.

Isn't Papadopoulos a solicitor...I don't know how good he is.... I mean if the Turkish military occupation forces will shoot Greeks if they try to go home and live in Kyrenia.

They even imprisoned a heavily pregnant donkey called Chelidona.

Yes, Papadopoulos has a law firm in Nicosia. And the son of the former president, Petros Clerides, is the Attorney General and President of Disciplinary Committee of Lawyers.

Someone that I was advising on their purchase in Paralimni used the firm:

Kallis & Kallis
9 Andrea Avraamides,
Pelekanos Building 32,
Offices 101,102,201,202
2024 Strovolos, Nicosia
Tel: 22 879 944
E-mail: [email protected]

They seem to have done her a good job.

You can not hire Papadopoulos now! His firm has other people that do the work by themselves now.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks Nigel for the BHC link. Interesting that there is only one conveyancing lawyer listed for the Paphos area (i.e. Mr. Nikos Papakleovoulou). With all the property purchasing going on, one might have expected a number of conveyancing lawyers to be listed.

During the next year, like Charlie, I may be in a similar position and I think it would be better to choose and get in touch with a lawyer well beforehand, to introduce oneself, and assess the calibre of the lawyer and the firm itself. That's my theory anyway. :) Good luck Charlie!

Regards.

I don't think that the BHC vet these listings so I am not sure that any reliance can be placed on it.

Make sure that your lawyer is registered with the Cyprus Bar for access to a complaints procedure - heaven forbid.

Why not just ask who you choose whether they have a conflict of interest from whoever you are buying from, especially if a developer.
