Anybody using a UK SIM card in their mobile?

If so, are you having problems making calls. I can receive calls OK, but can't make any. Been like this for a few days; just wondering if anyone else is having this problem before I try to chase someone up.

I don't know the answer, but...

Why do you use a UK SIM?
It is much cheaper to use a Cyprus one ?

I had the same problem when i was there a couple of weeks ago.
My vodafone sim did not work in one of my mobiles. Seemed to work in my other one(quad band one).

Could be your mobile is not compatible with CYTA's network?

And I agree. It is cheaper to get a pay as you go (so easy) card from there.

This is very interesting, I have heard previously that this the best option. Is it simply a matter of replacing my existing sim card for a pay as you go, for the seven days i will be in Cyprus and then changing back again ?
I am with Orange on contract, will the above still apply ?

Regards Charlie.

Charlie
Not sure if Orange lock their phones but I have a so easy in my phone and thats on a 02 contract and Ive had no problems since we moved here. When we first moved the phone I had at the time had to be unlocked but it was fine after that.
Its £15 for a sim card but you get £3 worth of credit included.
Try not to use your UK one, its so much more expensive than a so easy - I had a pay as you go once and forgot after a trip to UK to change the cards over. Anyway to cut a long story short, the phone rang and I got charged £1.50 to answer the call!

hope this helps. :D

Orange does lock the sims. You need to set it up before you leave the UK.

If you are there just for a week and that's it maybe not as cheap with "so easy"

If you plan to visit often, at least once a year then get a fixed number. After 2 years on mine, I pay 60 cents (cy pound 0.60) per month and it costs me less for calls in Cyprus. It is cheaper than so easy too.

Again IF you are there more than once a year.

i think if your mobile stays idle for a period of 3 months then the sim card gets de- activated and you need to purchase a new one. I had this problem with my mobile that I bought in UK.

I think now it is one year not 3 months.

My UK Vodafone pay as you go card is good as long as I have a balance and I use it once a year.
All I do is send a text and I am allset.
Had that for over 3 years now. Same number.
