6th day today. Since I was reported as a "close contact" they called me from the Government to have a PCR test. They always do that on the 5th day. i did it yesterday. They took samples both from the nostrils and the mouth. Just got my results from the Institute of Genetics & Neurology. NEGATIVE ! Hard to believe it ..

But... for all of you living in Cyprus: Covid seems to be uncontrollable these days. Nearly every family I know has at least one positive member currently self isolating.
The incidents are in no way 2% as Govnt says. I estimate between 10 and 20%. Stay away from ANY gathering of more than 10 people and never stay there for more than 10 minutes.
20 minutes the most if you wear a mask.

And here I am now watching the TV show " With love, Christiana". It's a young lady with 3 young commentators talking about similar things that young people talk in cafes.
We know that before entering the studio they all take a rapid test every day.
So among a crew of a cameraman, Christiana, and 3 commentators (total 5 persons) ALL 3 commentators were sent home today in one shot. All 3 diagnosed Covid +ve.
And then they say it's only 2% !!

Btw the first signs of Omicron only appeared in Cyprus, what 10 days ago? I don't think all this boost is Omicron related...

Yesterday we had over 180 000 people a day infected and it is going up. USA I think only had about 250 000 a day 0n the same day.

My son tested positive with PCR and had a chat to the Test and Trace centre yesterday about re-testing to see if it is negative and was told not to test because it wil come out positive. Apparently once positive they claimed you could stay positive for months but it does not mean you are spreading it. Just isolate for 10 days and you will be fine is what they said. Others in the house do not need to test unless they have symptoms.

Are you sure it was PCR? This needs minimum 24 hours to show results. It's considered close to 100% accurate though.

Just like in the UK the Govnt here doesn't repeat PCR tests for those in doubt. But you are always free to repeat it at private labs, it costs about 60 Euros.
It is also true that PCR tests may show +ve sometime after complete cure as explained here:
https://www.gavi.org/vaccineswork/false ... ctable-pcr

A recent study published in The Lancet Microbe suggested that, in most people, there is no longer any live virus in the body nine days after the onset of symptoms – even though they may continue to shed viral RNA for weeks, or sometimes months after this.

It was PCR because they do not call back for the rapid test as it is not sent in.

The PCR test was done 7 days earlier and he actually had the symptoms 3 days before getting the first test result, he decided to do a second test to see if it has cleared up but got another positive result. Day after the second PCR test is when he got the call from Test and Trace.

So that means they do not care what happens after 12 days. You can assume you are ok.

He only felt very tired for about 2 days. He has been ok since. So no dramas and of course he has not gone out for 12 days.

UPDATE:
On Xmas day we were invited to my wife's brother house some 100 Km away from here.
We wouldn't go anyway because of the baby.
5 days after the party all his 3 daughters and himself are in bed with covid. The only lucky one so far is his wife.

But myself will celebrate new year's eve tonight. We planned with wife to be watching TV in adjacent rooms, drinking wife's favorite spirit, BAILEYS on ice, chewing nuts. Until we get drunk and go kiss each other after midnight.   8)

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL GUYS.

I am afraid I must be the most boring one here.

No drinking, no shit tv, just a family gathering, lots of food and may be a good film and meet the new year. Lets hope it is as good as last year financially and if last year was not that good financially hope it is better and better healthwise too. I have a feeling the covid has had its day and it will hospitalise less people next year.

That is all I wish for for my family and mankind.

How about a forum toast? From something specially brewed in remembrance of the outgoing year.
