Two winters within 6 months for Paphitis....

Postby Kikapu » Sat Jan 29, 2022 6:37 pm

How is the weather in the Northeast Paphitis?

Longs ways from what the weather is back home, no?

How is the family handling it?

Another 6 months and it will be another humid summertime again!

Yes indeed. And as if St Louis wasn't cold enough, NY has snow, blizzards and friggin minus 10 and that's Celsius not bloody farenheit the yanks love using...

I'm currently in LA and have been assigned to an LA based line trainer who I spoke with yesterday. My roster is still ex Newark from this Thursday but they will change my entire 14 day roster to ex LA whilst my family are currently in NYC. I get my new roster either today or tomorrow, but I do know I will be flying this Wednesday - LAX - KIAH - KATL

I'm monitoring LAX to KIAH and flying to KATL. Already got a run down of what I will be doing.

I'll only get to see them if I happen to get a layover in Newark which is my domicile base.

the weather in LA is lovely. Mediterranean and very similar to the mild winters we get in Adelaide and Perth.

You are going to fly into one of the busiest airports in the world, Atlanta, on your first day on the job. :D

In fact, you are going to fly in & out of 3 major airports on your first day. Enjoy.

Busy air traffic environment also means easy, with all the automation, air traffic flow management, radar vectoring, Standard Arrivals onto the ILS Localizer, and Standard Instrument Departures.

Everything is so controlled and its ILS to ILS flying. Couldn't get easier.

What's hard is the weather conditions in the North East. So getting LA for now is a wonderful little mercy of VMC flying.

I would love to stay in LA till end of winter...

The major problem with very busy airports is that should you do a non emergency Go-Around, it might be a while before you can get back in-line to land.

The other problem is, when the weather is bad and/or the visibility is bad, a runway or two may become non operational, which waiting to land increases, creating pressure in making connections to other flights or the next leg.

We talked about “cardiac approach” at San Diego airport (KSAN) couple of years ago, so I am eger to hear your experience when you fly in there. :D

What equipment are you flying Wednesday?
