A crematorium for Cyprus .... at last!

At last ….. a crematorium for Cyprus!

https://cyprus-mail.com/2024/01/06/construction-work-to-begin-on-cyprus-first-crematorium/

How many members would chose this option as opposed to burial ? :?

Now all the Government need to do is to approve the right to decide to allow legally assisted suicide? They could build a ‘This Life Departure’ clinic on the same piece of land with a 'misty tunnel with a heavenly light' at the end to the 'Afterlife' running directly to the crematorium basement ……. and cut out the middle man …… the very expensive funeral directors?

How many members if they were terminally ill and death was either inevitable or it was a decision of choice, would chose this option ? :?

Fittingly, his last film appearance I believe. The voluntary suicide scene from “Soylent Green” 1973.

I've chosen Cremation.

It would obviously be cheaper and simpler to have it done here rather than being flown abroad as at present.

My friend had to be shipped to Vienna and came back in a box via DHL!

I don't think voluntary euthanasia is likely to be on the menu here anytime soon. Witness the David Hunter furore.

As forum members we should be able to get a decent discount via Kicks on the Dignitas setup though.

If Lordo feels the urge, I'm willing to contribute to any crowdfunding. Post-wise he's never seemed to be more than a gnat's cock away from slashing his wrists.

I'd probably opt for cremation. With the proviso they play "Come on baby light my fire" by Doors.................. as they opened.

In the north there is no fees for burial except a some voluntary contribution to the Imam for his religious services during burial and a few days after. The plot is free, the whole is dug by the LA for free and there is no such service as funeral directors. Well at least not in the villages anyway, it may be different in the towns.

As to exit from this earth, I certainly do wish to have the choice to exit at the time of my choosing and I will whether it is legal or not. Let them take me to court for doing it.

...Walmart has a cardboard coffin, it seems a modest option, economic and environmentally respectful.

...wow (you learn something everyday), something i can truly admire of a Turkish Cypriot's distinction; i wish to be buried with such dignity, for free.

An uncle and aunt of mine, who lived in the UK Bognor Regis area, both opted to be buried beside each other on a local designated hilltop in wicker coffins. No markers were allowed.

We talked about death so here is another interesting aspect about life. Culture of the TC community weddings is really helpful for a couple getting married. The bride and groom is given household goods for their engagement and money as a wedding present by people pinning money on them. In London in the 70s and 80s, the wedding money was as much as a year's salary and about 30% of a price of a house. Of course nowadays it is more like 5% of the price of a house.
