Duties on mail order and Internet in Lefkara

Postby maewing » Fri Feb 10, 2006 5:07 am

Hi, I am moving to Cyprus in a few months and I was wondering if anyone could help me in answering the following:

1) Is there a special duty attached to books or other small items that I would order (say from Amazon) over the internet when they arrive in Cyprus, or would I simply receive them in the mail as usual? If there is a duty, do you know anywhere where I might find out the charges?

2) I will be living in Pano Lefkara and I want internet access in my home--preferably high-speed. I have checked cytanet and my new phone number is not broadband enabled. Do you know: is it possible to have the phone line enabled (changed from pulse-dial to digital)? Moreover, is it possible to get satellite service (for both internet and TV) and what is involved?

Thanks!

I buy a lot of things over the internet, if they come from anywhere in the EU there is no duty and they are posted normally. :D

Some items (Software for example) won't be sent by Amazon to Cyprus, but they'll tell you and won't accept the order anyway.

Be careful if you order expensive things from the U.S. The import duty can be high.

I'm lucky enough to live in a broadband area and can't help you on the other point.

Thanks so much. When you say "expensive" from the States does this include books?
