looking for my cousin who lives in Astoria. Where do I start

Postby andri_cy » Tue Feb 14, 2006 5:44 am

Hi,
My name is Andri and I am married to an american and I live right outside Louisville Kentucky. I am looking for my cousin who I know studied in NY, lived in Astoria and got married and is now living in the US. I have asked my mom to ask his for his phone number but she seems to avoid doing so because he is a cousin on my father's side and you know how it goes. I have no idea how to go by looking for him. His name is Kostas but I found out he might have changed his last name. He is around 30. His dad's name is Vassos, his mom's is Persa and he has a sister named Maria. I have no other family here and I am kind of feeling alone. If anyone has any suggestions or knows him by any chance, please help me. I have no idea where to start. Thanks!

Andri
Without a last name it would be hard to locate
Even IF he changed his name did you try to do a name search with his old name?
Got to www.att.net
click on White Pages

then enter what you got and do a search.

After you find it IF you do then do a reverse search with that number and you may find his new name.
Better yet call that number.
Just a suggestion.
I found my best friend and classmate after being in the states for 20 years. He changed his 1st name and modified his last one, but it was close enough for me to find him in New York. Took a few wrong numbers but heck. It s not that expensive from Kentucky

There is one more web side but it costs a pretty penny. And it is mostly for locating people's criminal records.
I think it is www.intellius.com (maybe one L) but not 100% sure on that.

Good Luck.

Contact Athens cafe in Astoria that is a regular hang out for Greeks and Cypriots in the area. In fact when I was there I felt I was in down town Larnaca.

Seriously though, you could contact the Greek Orthodox churches and schools in Astoria as they usually know someone who knows someone. The cafes are also a good bet and I'm sure they would be willing to put up a note at the till or something if you write to them.

Good luck I know how you feel. I am trying to locate my best friend who I lost touch with some 10 years ago. We had been friends since we were 5 so it is tough.

Thank you all for your replies. My cousin's surname is Gavriel. I am still trying to find him. I have been trying to think of what to write in a note I will send to Athens Cafe. I am working at it slowly but surely. Thanks again for your responses.

I went on www.att.net
Found 7 good matches and 53 possible ones by just using the Gavriel surname.

Did you look into that?
I can not copy and past them all here.
Let me know if you need help

Yes I looked into that. I called everyone that was a good match. 5 of them didnt know anything about it and 2 of them I left a message and they never called back. It has been a week. I am wondering if I should call back or if that would be bordering on rude since they didnt call back and that might mean it is not them.

Hi andri
When I was looking for my friend it took several calls to the same number. At 1st I left a voice message and never got a reply. So I called a few more times till I talked to someone. She kept saying she did not know who Panikkos was. At the end she said only one there was Peter but was away on a trip to Cyprus. So I called back again when he was back. He changed his name to Peter. And so you know I was talking to his wife who is Greek American but she did not speak Greek.

Anyway, I would not feel I m being rude if I was you. As long as you really want to find him.

Did you look at the other names listed? Gavriel could be any of the other ones listed at ATT. Maybe he has it listed under his wife's name.
It may take sometime but if you are persistant you are bound to find him. Just make sure when you talk to females that you are clear with them it is your cousin. You know why lol.

You did notice there where over 50 names listed there right?

LOl yes I did. I guess I will try call again. It is hard for me as I am naturally shy-I know it doesnt make sense being a shy Greek :)
I shall call them all. I got nothing to lose :)
