Recycling

What is the position regards recycling in Cyprus? I know of the recycling of tin cans (Cans for Kids) but now that we are in the EU isn't there some requirement for recycling plants for glass, paper, plastic etc?

If the facilities are up and running already  can someone let me know where they are?

Hi Twinkle,

Things are starting to happen - take a look at: http://www.cydot.com.cy/

and http://www.recycling.cytanet.com.cy/

But there's a whole lot of education and public awareness to be done. It's not going to happen overnight.

Regards,

I checked out Green Dot which pretty unclear as to what they offer and what they are doing.

They also call Cyprus a sovereign territory. Are they just for the Bases areas or for the whole of Cyprus? Cyprus is a Republic after all.

Everything is recycled eventually. We don't need to do anything about it. Did you know we are made from recycled star dust?

Sotos,

your kidding right? The stardust thing, OK. But we really do need to do something about recycling here and now, before its too late and the planet starts an irreversible decline towards irreparable climate change. The product of which, our childrens, children will feel.

Don't worry Jez. Nature will take care of it. When your time is up, its up. Don't worry be happy, that should be the motto! Humans are a probably a disease for this planet anyways...

Humans the disease, Yes. Dont worry, No. I sincerley hope nature will take care of everything, but I've got a feeling that when it does my grandkids are going to be the ones facing the problems head on. As I contemplate starting a new family, I'm becoming more and more aware of what the world, I'II be bringing my children into, will be like. Nature will keep the earth turning, and life will continue to exist, but I'm not that confident that if we continue to consume and waste as we are now, humans will be part of it.

By everyone doing a little, we can make such a big difference. It seems stupid and lazy to just throw your hands up in the air and say "nature will sort it out." Sort it out yes. but at what cost?

Jez, if you feel so strongly about give something back. Vote Green in the forthcoming elections. They seem to be giving back to Cyprus rather than lining their pockets like the clowns we see all over the television.
