Ok, so i want to bring my dog Juno with me when I move to Cyprus.

Cute or what !!

So to start off i have to get her a pet passport, just in case it don't work out and we have to come home.

Now that's 2 vaccinations at £25.40 each.
Then her Rabies jab which is £38.00.
Then she has a blood test which is another £76.00.

So Ok, at that point she has her passport. Quote I had for getting her there by plane, including the freight charges, the flight, all the airport handling charges in the UK, fuel surcharge, security, the airline approved container, our fee and VAT is £487.68 .

At the Cyprus end i have had a quote for collecting her from the plane, local fees and charges of £140 Cyp.

I think we'll be living in a box when we get there.

Vex, a lovely puppy, but to be brutally honest my advice is...

Find her a good home in the UK, come out here and try to settle in, if you do, then get free one of the thousands of homeless puppies that are here in Cyprus. (Or get her shipped over)

I disagree with Cabbie. My Jack Russell is part of the family and if we were going to move anywhere in the world he'd come with us...cost is not an option. What kind of dog is he? He looks a bit Staffie possibly Pit?

She's a Parsons Terrier, part of the Jack Russell breed.

And leaving her behnd is NOT an option.

Mine's a Parsons Terrier although not many people know the difference between them and a Jack Rusell. They are taller. Be warned mine is now 3 and as complete Looney. Such great character, big dog in a small body. Oh, I love him.... Where will you be moving to in Cyprus? If you need any advice on vets or kennels I can suggest a great vet in Larnaca and theres nothing quite like the kennels in Ermi (Secret Valley). They have air con in the summer and heating in the winter, separate pens with a patio :) . Really clean, super friendly place. I hope you're not off to Paphos as there have been numerous poison cases. You can buy a special kit which has injections in, in case your pet happens to eat something laced in poison, gets bitten by a snake or has a bad reaction to a bee/wasp sting. It gives you that valuable time to get to the vet and can save their life. Better to be prepared.

Morning VEX8,
Oh the puppy is so sweet, I agree that she has to come with you, Us british are so attatched to our pets and I understand because I have two cats, Holly 11 and Chelsea 8.I know people think cats are not as important as dogs, and I have been told many times that it would be stupid to bring them over, but thats easier to say than do!

Unfortunately Twinkle Pathos is exactly where i was hoping to move to because i have family that have retired to Coral Bay and i would like to be near to them. Of course it's not written in stone......

Pet advice would be greatly received as i have heard such horror stories of dogs being poisoned recently. I did hear that the government was culling stray dogs and introducing dog licences, which is good for protecting our pets so long as the poisoner/culler doesn't get them confused (something i don't have much faith in).

People often confuse Juno with a young Staff but she doesn't have the 'broadness' of a staff. And you're right, brilliant temprement, great with kids, loves as much attention as she can get and a complete bed hog.

And little sugar you are right. People expect a certain 'aloofness' when it comes to cats. With dogs it's a simple "I love you" with a waggy tail and jumping all over the place but with cats it's more like "Hmmm......you'll do for now". I think it's because dogs show so much enthusiasm and cats just don't.

My mum was a member of the Cats Protection League for many years and we had up to 4 cats at a time when i was younger but i still prefer the unconditional companionship i get from my dog. Of course it would have been so much easier if i hadn't got her but since i can't go back in time i'm going to do my best for her now and i think my best would be keeping her close to me whatever the cost.

PS. That pic was when she was a little pup some 2 years ago. This is what she looks like now.

She is adorable. The government has brought in licences. Its about £12 a year. As for culling, I haven't heard that. The local muncipality has to collect stray dogs. If not collected after 2 days there are usually sent to either Paphos dog shelter or Nicosia (so I've heard). Juno will have a pet passport so must have been microchipped. All municipalities and most vets are able to trace a dog through that if found. However, be weary of the poisoning issue. They are such sick b@st@rds. They don't realise that our pets are more than pets and part of the family.

Keep her tagged, chipped and in sight . She's a real cutie...little pink nose :)
