It is sad. When I was a kid I watched a car hit my cat. The ass knew that he hit it because he stopped to make sure his car was ok, seen my cat laying on the road and just drove off even though I was in tears and screaming.

You done your best twinkle. Nothing more unfortunetly you can do. At least it is off the road and it is resting now.

I ll tell you a happy story that happened to me last year. I was driving home and a bird flew right into my grill of my truck. I stopped and pulled it out. The poor thing looked in rough shape. I layed it on the passenger seat. It looked like it's wings and neck where broken. I drove it to the closet Vet doctor. As soon as I open the passenger door the darn thing flew away. It was acting hurt all this time........

Anyway, something to make you smile on a rough day.

Thanks Leonidas. I have to say I think the bird may have just been looking for a lift up the road....

This unfortunately comes as part of the package living in a country that is comprised of caveman ideology. To the typical Cypriots a cat is just a 'thing' not a living creature with feelings and senses.
I am amazed that despite all the bad publicity this topic of animal welfare has had in foreign press, the cyrpus government is still defiant on the subject turning a blind eye to all these cases that are so potentially damaging to our economy and reputation as a warm friendly and welcoming place.
I know what i would do. I would take every one of these bastards who treat animals in this way, i would starve them for a week, tie them to a kennel till they are postively going mad with a yearning for freedom, then unleash them onto a busy road where i would be waiting with me 4 be 4 to run them over, nice and slow so as to ensure maximum pain. ONLY if they experience something like this will the village mentality regarding animals in cyprus change, because people are stupid dumb and ignorant. Its annoying and upsetting. BRING BACK THE GALLOWS, i cannot stand people who treat poor defenceless creatures who cannot stick up for themselves in this way. GOD AM SO MAD.

We had cats and I like them as well.

But I find such comments ridiculous. Sheep, Cows, Chickens, Pigs and all the other 'things' we slaughter daily are also living creatures with feelings and senses.

Therefore any non 100% vegetarian making such comments is a hypocrite.

Piratis,
Perhaps you have misunderstood what i have written. I wrote to the 'typical' cypriots, all cats are just things. Seeing as you state you like cats you do not fall intot his category.

The above quote you have given is with direct reference to cats. Perhaps you misread my statement through error.

'But I find such comments ridiculous. Sheep, Cows, Chickens, Pigs and all the other 'things' we slaughter daily are also living creatures with feelings and senses. '

YES THEY ARE. BUT WHEN THEY ARE SLAUGHTERED ARE THEY RUN OVER AND LEFT BY THE ROADSIDE TO DIE?
ARE THEY HOT BY A MOVING TRUCK WHICH THEN CAUSES THEM SO MUCH PAIN THEY CAN HARDLY BREATHE AND THEY LIE DYING ON THE SIDE OF ROADS COVERED IN THEIR OWN BLOOD?
No. They are slaughtered in a humane way for meat consumption, the slaughtering is designed in such a way so as to not cause suffering to the animal, THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE. So the hypocrite my dear friend is in fact you, who states that you like cats yet you bring up examples of Sheep Cows Chickens and Pigs, all living animals rarely seen lying bleeding to death on the side of the motorway being slaughtered for meat.
Are cats slaughtered for meat? is that the reaosn why in the space of a ten minute drive last week i spotted no less than 4 dead cats on the side and middle of road?
Its talk like that that i suspect will never change the ideology in Cyprus of animals being something that man can amnipulate and sipose of as and when they no longer serve a purpose or function. AND AM NOT SAYNG ALL Cypriots are like this. BUT THE SAD FACT IS THAT MANY ARE.

i love cats and i hate dogs. suddenly in cyprus the story is usually the other way round. there are a number of cypriots being cruel to animals - especially cats. i saw people shooting at hem with their aerovolo, or with lastiha, or running after them with the car. cannot even remember how many times i had to bury a dead cat

sometimes i think that , its for reasons like that that we should have not been accepted in the EU...

Im very sad to see this is still happening in Cyprus

it was quite bad when I was living there - always dead animals in the road and the bad thing is it would take ages for them to be cleaned up - very dirty and so unhygienic!

So being raised in a cage to be slaughtered for consumption is more "humane" than living a free life and dying in a traffic accident? Sorry but I don't agree with your logic.

Humans treat animals in an "inhumane" way. (this is why this word exist in the first case: humane is for humans). Is this wrong? Probably yes. But before you accuse others of killing animals you should turn yourself into a vegetarian, otherwise you are being a hypocrite ;)

Of course I disagree that animals should be hurt just for fan. There is no excuse for that. However a cat having an accident in the street is not this case most of the time.

I too feel very bad when I see a dead cat, while I can perfectly enjoy eating a chicken. However what we feel is one thing, affected by our culture, and we can not accuse others because they don't share our principles. For example a religious Indian would feel very negatively about you because you eat hamburgers ;)
