Fire

Postby Londonrake » Wed Jul 23, 2025 7:42 pm

Big fire today in the Achna area, west of the Kouris. Much destruction it seems.

Even in Limassol, which must be 30k away, the air was thick with smoke and it was snowing ash.

I suspect it could be a very bad summer fire-wise here in Cyprus. :(

Interesting to see fire fighters from some of the friends of Cyprus stepping up to the plate:

From friends living in Souni - an affected area. It seems some of its Russian inhabitants have gotten together and organized vigilante patrols to stop widespread looting that’s been going on there.

There was something on the news last night, a guy was speaking, He did not particulaly specify looting (this obviously would not be good for viewers to hear) but did say that they had organised patrols through the night.

Also just to say this was in Souni Village And the inter view was being conducted in English. The guys who spoke the interrviewer spoke with what appeared to be IMO eastern european accents.
So this would appear to give credence to your post LR

This was on Cybc news last night
