Are you coming on an organised inspection visit? If so, be warned that you'll be given very little (if any) time or opportunity to do your own research and viewings.

Regards,

Hi Nigel

It is not a visit that an agent have arranged. I have arranged it myself, flight and hotel etc. I have been speaking to them for a month or so now. I have told them quite clearly that I will be cherrypicking 2 or 3 properties then going back with my partner to decide which one. I have told them also that I will not sign anything this trip, which is fine they say. I have paid for my hotel and flight myself.

I hate pushy salespeople and if they do start the big push I will walk away.

So how did my posting about Holiday letting turn into a battle between 2 people on a totally different subject?

OK maybe not a battle more a slight fracas but still totally unconnected with the original subject.

It doen't just happen in the Cyber world. That's how things are around here, as you'll find out when you make the move.

Back to topic; As has been said, most (probably 99.9%) of private villas and apartment holiday rentals aren't legal, having said that I know people who've been doing it for years with no problems, the CTO haven't the time or inclination to check so you don't need to worry about them.

The major problem that I see is from the tourists themselves, should there be a problem and they decide to sue for damages (and the Brits are getting like the Yanks in this matter) you won't be able to have public liability insurance as you won't be a registered business... Could mess up your life a bit.

Hi Niki

As you know I agree with Cabbie in so far as the CTO will not look at just one property for licencing. But they are waking up because the Hotel trade is pushing for them to act against non licenced holiday lets. I hear, not seen, that the CTO has been "leafletting" some complexes.

I wholeheartedly agree with Cabbie -the problem is insurance - a big problem - and again you already know this from my reply to you on another board to the same question.

I think the problem is that the tourist market is down on previous years and the hotels now feel the pinch. If things pick up the problem will go away I expect…

People are complaining about unlicensed ‘estate agents’ for the same reasoning.

I really appreciate everyones help on this - it seems to be take a chance if you want but be careful.

I'll probably settle for a year or so and see what the situation is then.

Thanks so much
