Looking for a Delicatessen

Postby bungle » Sun Mar 26, 2006 6:58 pm

I'm looking for a decent delicatessen in either Nicosia or Larnaca (Limassol at a push) that stocks things like mascarpone cheese, ricotta etc and if possible Japanese food stuffs like dashi, seaweed, miso.... Am I asking too much?

Limassol:
Bavarian Delicatessen (Near Bodyline intersection)

Unknown (Opposite Starbucks near the courts)

As far as Seaweed wraps, etc.. Suprisingly Orphanides stocks a decent range of Japanese products

Found Italian Deli

Postby bungle » Wed Mar 29, 2006 5:21 pm

Found a great Italian Deli in Strovolos, Nicosia - 'il Paesano'
Vyzantiou 31, Strovolos, tel: 22664577

Sells wonderful pasta, cheeses, hams, wines, polentas, sun dried tomatoes etc etc...

They also have a small eating area for fresh pasta, salads, ciabatta sandwiches and other hot meals - they stay open till 8pm each night.

Service was really friendly and they are very professional.

Now just need to find a Japanese / Asian store! Any ideas anyone???

Thanks for the info on Orphanides, I have searched supermarkets and whilst they do stock a surprisingly high number of Asian foods, its the more obscure stuff like Dashi that I am looking for.

Bungle except the Bavarian one in Ayias Zonis street, off Ariel Traffic Lights, there is a Il Paesano and Alio Olio almost opposite Startbucks, next to the Law Court, at the begining of Gladstonos Street. You can find Bavarian deli in Nicosia as well...

For Cypriots it is right, for Greeks it is wrong. It's like Nuna and Tatas, Nuna and Nono. Koumera and Koumbara. There is a difference between Cypriots and Greeks through the dialect and language. Albeit "village Greek "
