Live in housekeeper

Postby twinkle » Mon Mar 27, 2006 11:07 am

Before cyprusgrump starts moaning   I have searched the forum for this subject but the posts didn't help me.

Does anyone know how I can arrange for a live in housekeeper?
I understand that the Govt is pushing for EU citizens but I heard that if a housekeeper is already here and can be released from her employers you can then take them on.
Do I then have to issue the guarantee for them and the ticket home should they need it?
Do you have to pay for private medical insurance? I know about the employers liability insurance you have to take out and pay their social insurance.

Any advise, comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well done! :D

Unfortunately, I don’t know the answer to the rest of your question other than to say the English newspapers frequently carry advertisements from workers looking for jobs who have ‘release papers’. The rest is a mystery to me… :?

Yes, you normally need to provide medical cover, a return airfare once every 3 (?) years and a Bond to be lodged with the Government. EU legislation requires that all new job offers must be made to EU Nationals.

Immigration is only granting and renewing Visas for up to 4 years for non-EU Nationals, as EU legislation allows them right of Residence after years here (subject to some minimal knowledge of the Greek languiage and history of Cyprus).

One ploy (not that I endorse it) is to offer a pittance, say £150pm; it is unlikely an EU National will acpep thejob you will then be able to offer the job to a Filipino or Sri Lankan. < I got back fromSri Lanka yetserday - a country where a 'working man' will earn more than £5 a day!>
