Some places depending on who does their processing for them do and some dont. When my family comes over, my mom's cards are accepted everywhere, but my brothers are accepted in some places and not in some others. Visa Electron should be fine but if you have a back up card you can bring it would be great. VAT in the US is apprx 8% some states have less. As far as duties and stuff go are you going to order something online and have it shipped or are you going to be travelling?

Over the past year or so I’ve found it much more difficult (and costly) to bring goods in from the US.

They do accept Visa Electron but you may well find that you have to pay Cyprus VAT (15%) and duty (make up a number) when the goods arrive – especially if you use a courier.

If the goods come via the post office then they generally don’t bother with anything under CY£500.
