Dogs on Highways - Update

Postby lindy1706 » Tue Apr 04, 2006 2:39 pm

Travelling home from work yesterday on the Kiti - Zygi Road, 4x4 in front slammed on brakes and swerved all over the road.......I could see bundle of fur in middle of road and prepared to do the usual (tightly close eyes) as I went past the carcass........just as I was preparing to pass a little face looked up at me.....I slammed on brakes and hazard lights and lept out of my car (with much hooting and shouting from all those behind me). Thank you to the guy in the black Rav4 who pulled alongside my car to stop everyone else from screaming past and who gave me a smile and a thumbs up as I scooped up the bundle.

Turned out to be a no more than 5 week old puppy totally emaciated who had probably decided in yesterdays heat that the middle of the road was as good a place as any to take a rest.

I took puppy round to my mother (but I dont want a dog!) to save it being bothered to within an inch of its life by my two monsters, with every thought of ringing the dog shelter this morning.

On arrival at mothers this morning Zygi (ahem!) was sleeping soundly on a blanket with a hot water bottle, having just consumed a chicken breast and rice........better take him to the vet to get rid of the fleas and ticks and on the way back can we call into the pet shop to buy a collar and lead and some toys she says........My husband picked him up "you mate have been bloody lucky.....now can I suggest you don't do anything to cock it up"

That also bought a smile to my face Lindy. Well done on such a brave act to save the life of a helpless little creature :)

You bought a smile and some tears to my face. You are a star. I've been here 8 years and wouldn't like to count the number of dogs I've found, saved, or had to have put to sleep. I have three rescue dogs 8, 9 and 1 yrs old and unfortunately cannot take on any more as I am trying to run my grooming business. I also live in the Zygi/Kalavasos area - you never know we may meet up one day for coffee and talk doggy tales?

Cheers, Anne

Well done!!! That story warmed me, i too have 3 rescues, and the pleasure and unconditional love i get from them is wonderful they seem so grateful and all have beautiful natures. Even if i reach into the worst of who i am i cannot find a piece of me that could be cruel to an animal. I believe that a lot of it is done out of ignorance, and many here dont believe they are sentient and can feel and think and have emotions. Where i live there are many miserable dogs in filthy cages, and now at this time of year they will start to get ticks and fleas that must drive them insane.. But i do feel the young are beginning to learn new ways... I guess though i am the same as everybody and want change now, so these lovely creatures can start to have a quality of life, filled with love and care.

so your looking at an alternative type easter dinner eh!! each to their own i say.. cant say i fancy it myself, though.. horse used to be eaten a lot in many countries, and a friend of mine years ago went to a doctor with a bone stuck in her throat after eating a chinese takaway and it was a rat bone... The one food here that makes me cringe is eating the head of a goat. Blah!!!
