I'm as disgusted as you are, I'd have thought that the English families with children who come to live here come for the same reason as we did - to give your children a nicer & safer environment to live in and get away from that kind of behavior. My child has been brought up to respect others & would not get away with that - I would like to believe that the parents had no idea that that happened...
On the other side of the coin however, my 5 year old lasted 6 weeks in a Cypriot school, several of the children's behavior towards her had no respect in it whatsoever - she was slapped across the face by a girl in her class - the teacher moved my daughter to another seat!!! A boy threw an open bottle of water into her bag covering her books, three older boys taunted her at every break time. I'm sorry that the Cypriot school did not work out but she was very unhappy, she now attends a private school with various nationalities with whom she is gtting along fine with.
Hopefully your experience is an unusual event???

Very sad indeed. In general Cypriots that come from the Famagusta area are much better, more polite and open minded. Pity i cannot suggest you move to the Famagusta district.

yes i live in the famagusta area and your right they were briliant with my children who did not speak a word of greek i also had a teacher visit our home for afternoon private lessons but this was 20 years ago were it was something new and exciting to have a non speaking cypriot in the classrooms and everyone made an extra effort to help now a days its more common and unfortunately by what i hear things have changed for the worse in schools teachers dont give a damn any more all they are interested in is how much money and time off they can get.again im sorry your daughter had such awful treatment but again i blame the teacher she should have spoken to the children so that they where extra caring of your daughter.

I meant the old Famagusta area which is now Turkish controlled. The spilling of people from their homes after 1974 is much to blame for changing attitudes. Overprotection by parents is another factor.

There are badly brought up children everywhere. My children are extremely polite and a pleasure to take anywhere.

I like the fact this has been raised as an issue as it makes me think that people expect children to be well behaved in Cyprus. We should fit in well.

I dont think giving kids " A bloody good hiding" is the way to go about it, violence breeds violence, i have seen too much of it here, children need good role models, and if given respect they will inturn give respect.

Children learn what they live.

If a child lives with criticism
He learns to condemn

If a child lives with hostility
He learns to fight

If a child lives with ridicule
He learns to be shy

If a child lives with shame
He learns to feel guilty

If a child lives with tolerance
He learns to be patient

If a child lives with encouragement
He learns confidence

If a child lives with praise
He learns to appreciate

If a child lives with fairness
He learns justice

If a child lives with approval
He learns to like himself

If a child lives with acceptance and friendship
He learns to love in the world.

Had to share that as i believe its not the childrens fault but the parents.

dear earthling
do you have any children? if what you say is aplied to bringing up children it would be fantastic we would have eventualy the perfect human being.but unfortunately not everyone who has children knows how to be a parent, I think they should have lessons in school from the age of 14 on how to be a good parent and give theese upcoming parents guidence.
